My friend was telling me that she has PCOS, whilst I know what it is, I don't know if it is curable, she seems really down that she may not be able to have kids but doesn't seem to know much more about what can be done - I want to be able to help her

Can any of you explain to me please

Thank you

I dont think its curable but the symptoms can ease up if that makes sense?

I had borderline tests for it over a year ago but with weightloss it "dissapeared"
I still got PCO (as discovered through the IUIs)

Hi hun, I have PCOS and been TTC for almost 12 months now. The first thing the docs say is weightloss, this can be difficult but effective, I have also be on Metformin from the doctors for a couple of years now, and getting referred to FS in January.

But my first piece of advice would be to exercise and try and get to a normal BMI. Please PM me of you have any questions.

While most women with PCOS will need some form of AC, many do get pregnant. Ther are all sorts of options. As the girls said, weightloss is a big key, but depending on the extent of your friends condition, this may be very difficult and may require help from a nutritionst who knows a lot about PCOS. Some women I know with PCOS can only lose weight when carbs are very limited for eg.

Apart from this, there are drugs which help to ovulate such as clomid - this is the main one. There are several doses of clomid that are trialed on the patient, and failing this, other options are IUI, and failing that IVF.

So while it may take a while, there is a lot to be hopeful for.

Exactly what FJL said really. I have PCOS and have been ttc for 26 months, but we also have severe male factor to deal with.
Weight is a big issue for me, but it is coming off slowly . Cutting out on too many carbs deffinately helps. If I can be of any other help at all then pop me a PM.

I have PCOS too - been TTC for over 3 years. Although I have been successful - just did not stick. :(
There are medications - I am on Metformin to help regulate insulin levels. There is treatment, so let your friend know there is help out there.
