Hi Priya :hi:

I too have PCOS and although I don't know about Metformin as I am on Clomid only, I was prescribed with some progesterone tabs to make me come on my period last year that seemed to work... (I wish I could remember what the name of them was)... but your dr. should prescribe you with something similar next week. I had to take them for 5 days, and I came on my period 5 days after that... so it was pretty quick. Since then I have still had iregular periods... but not as bad as they usually are.

I am sorry I can't help more, good luck!!! :hugs: :dust:

It will be called Provera. I'm still waiting on my AF too. It's 4 days late now and it's getting really frustrating. I'm thinking of calling my Gyno to ask about getting some provera to bring it on

So, I started Metformin on 2-1-08 and haven't gotten a period but that isn't really a surprise. Metformin itself wouldn't actually give you a period on it's own. If you are insulin resistant, then that can affect your hormones which can keep you from ovulating. The idea of Metformin is that is corrects your insulin levels which can "unlock" you ovaries and allow you to ovulate. (This is what my doctor told me.)

If Metformin doesn't help your cycles, you will probably need to go on Provera and/or Clomid which does cause you to ovulate. (That is it's actual job. LOL)

I have no idea if this helps or ever makes sense but good luck TTC!!!

After I was diagnosed they put me on provera to bring on a period, then I had an HSG and then they put me on clomid. They never gave me any metformin. I did the clomid for two cycles and got my bfp. :dust: I hope it starts working for you!

Hi hun,
Sorry I can't give u any advice on meds u on but I wanted to welcome u to BnB and offer some advice on how u feel, I understand how down u get when trying to deal with the fact its not going to be quite as straight forward as u first thought, I remember how I felt when I first found out there is no way we will be able to concieve without the help of surgens and needles but I know that will be easier said than done please please keep ur chin up as although u have PCOS it doesn't mean u will not be able to concieve it mite take a bit longer than anticapated but u will get there hun and when u hold ur gorgeous little mirical in ur arms this journey will all be worth it.:hugs:

:hi: I am new here too, fact is this is my first post.

I was dx with PCOS in 2000. I started back on Metformin in November and even though I am not insulin resistant (IR) it did help my hormones and gave me a :witch: in 30 days. Then the next mo. nothing. I went to a RE and he upped my dose to 1500mg. I am on CD 23 today and no O yet but I do have watery CM today so possibly it is on its way. If not then I will start Prometrium (a better progestrone) to get :witch: Met can take 3 mo to help at all so do not get down. Are you thin or fluffy? If a fluffy like me then get on a good exercise program and try to drop some pounds. I have dropped 33 so far and ONLY have 67 more to go BLAH, I started last August it is comming off really slow.

I need an HSG that insurance will not pay for because I have a tubal reversal soon as I get that if I am not pg by then and if HSG shows open tubes, I will start clomed.

Good luck, try not to be discouraged!!

Tracy
