I thought I'd open a thread for those suffering with PCOS. I've recently been put on 1500mgs of Met a day..and BOY the side affects are killing me.

I've researched and researched and there is so much conflicting advice. I guess the best advice is from those who are going through it.

The Side effects that are mainly killing me are the need to run to the Loo every 5 mins....Eek...(it's not #1 either!). And the constant feeling of nausea.

Then again - on a good note my whole appetite has gone CAPUT! which is not so bad cause I need to lose weight.

So..I've found taking Immodium can help the toilet problem.
And avoiding lettuce seems to ease it too.
Plus taking your pills before you eat.

What about anyone else?

For me Metformin did not help me but I had the bathroom problem too. I found taking Met with food and drinking less coffee helped a lot too. :)

Hi Ney Ney, I have PCO but not PCOS the hospital have just kinda dismissed it. I'm not on any meds for it either at the moment hopefully it will stay this way and won't progress to PCOS

Hope you survive the symptoms!

Hey neyney, well im back on met, i have the bethroom nuber 2 problem too, but i noticed i drink my 850mg met in the evening now, starting 2 in the evening from tonight 1700mg a day...I have noticed my body doesn't like MET with meat... no meat then i get all :sick:

But i don't feel so bloated and my tummy has gone down some what about 6cm in 1 week, and starting gym again tomorrow so hoping it works this time round...:hug:

I was put on 500mg once a day and then worked up to 850mg twice a day. I have the same toilet troubles although not as often as when I first started on the met.
I find cutting out lots of carbs like potatoes and pasta helps a little. I also find taking the tablets with food helps.

After two positive pregnancy tests and going to my 12 week scan i was told that there was no baby and that i had PCOS and it was PCOS that had given me the false positives.
After being messed around by the Docs at the hospital i went to my GP who gave me Northisterone to make me bleed and then 50g Clomid cd 2-7.
After 2 months of clomid - feeling awful ( hot flushes and REALLY bad mood swings) up dosage to 100g and again i didnt ovualte.
Just waiting now to go to fertility clinic - really hard to be happy for other pg women starting to get very down

Hi Aimz. Welcome to BNB. So sorry to hear about your results :(

I hope you find some comfort here with us.

Thanks girls for your tips.
The symptoms seem to be easing now...
Lord help me though when I add 100mgs a day of clomid on days 5-9 hahaha.

Should be interesting

Hi I have PCOS and I find coffee really gives me bad stomach pains and aggrevates it all... no idea why!!

hi NeyNey i tried 50g for 2 months (felt awful! thought i wanted to curl up under the duvet and never come out! but then got prescribed 100g and had no symptoms at all - weird! just waiting to go to the fertility clinic at hos now

Hiya,

I have PCOS :( although have been given nothing for it at all !! I had a laparoscopy and cystectomy to remove a cyst where it was found that there were more (possibly to be removed later if they grow) but I was told that I was too fat to concieve .. WTF !!! at the time I was 13 1/2 stone (86kg) and now I am 10stone 12lbs (69kg) and still no pregnancy although I will admit that it has helped the PCOS a bit so I would highly recommend weight loss. It has given me a few more periods (before I would only have about 3 periods a year) and now I am getting them every 36-40 days although they are so so so painful and they last for about 8-9 days :( and also cutting out bread and pasta (or only eating it once a week) has relieved symptoms. I tried agnus castus which was of no use at all. Limiting caffeine also helps slightly and for those of you interested there is a brilliant book called the PCOS diet book which has some handy tips and also PCOS for dummies is a very informative book about our condition :)

PS: do not believe the docs when they tell you that you cant lose weight as I managed to lose 2 1/2 stone in 4 months... you can do it, its just determination (and that was with minimal excercise... ie. walking 15 mins a day).

TTxx

After a failed cycle of 100g clomid my GP said there was no more he could do and just wait to go to fertility clinic. Because i havent taken the Northistrone and clomid this month ( normally start new course around cd28 ) i reckon i actually ovualted naturally on cd31 Went at it like mad and about a week later ive started to have the following symptoms:-
-Tender boobs ( sometimes feels like some1 is squeezing them really hard) ouch!
-nausea on and off all day
-lots of cm
-tiredness
-lower back ache
-bloated
-constipation

Its only been about 15 days after when i think i ovulated could it be too soon for symptoms or am i imagining it because i really want it?

What do you think?

Hi

Just to add to these threads.

I have been overweight all my life and had tried everything concievable to shift it!

I went to the doctor after having plenty of BD's with the other half but no pregnancy due to the fact I was not have regular AF and was therefore not able to get the timing right, although it didn't stop us trying!

I went to my doctor who immediately sent me to see a consultant where I was diagnosed with PCOS.

Since then I have been put on Metformin 850mg daily and with continued diet and excercise, managed to lose 4 stone in 5 months - although the whole loo thing is still an issue!

The weightloss has now become very static and I am still overweight, although after getting my first AF at 17 yrs old and now being 27, AF appears to be appearing every 4/5 weeks which I am delighted about. It at least means I am on the right road to getting things timed better! and my OH isn't worried about doing the BD several times a day every day! LOL!

Any suggestions on how to pin it down further would be greatfully received!
