Hi Ladies
I have pcos, I am a little over weight by about a stone.. No other symtons only irregular periods being around every 50days..

No facial hair, no acne or anything else.

I have been reading that loosing weight with pcos can help you get your BFP however has anyone else had this before? I mean i am only a stone over weight so its not a big amount but that stone is sooooooooooooo hard to shift and i mean hard...

When i was on BC i could diet and it would really show but since stopping BC to TTC that extra stone is just not wanting to shift i have tired and still trying!

A few years ago i took a break from my BC (which i been on for about 10 years) when i split with my ex partner. I was completely stressed as i had to manage a mortgage and selling the house on my own and lost alot of weight!
However at this time I had regular periods around every 35 days and then about 4 months ltr I decided to go back onto BC..

A few years ltr I met my new partner and last June stopped BC to start ttc and my periods have been up the wall since last year :growlmad:

Only thing i can put it down to is this extra weight..I know its only a stone, but then why were they ok a few years ago and now they dont seem to be it must be due to this extra weight? Just wondering if any one else suffering or has suffered same thing?

I personally dont think its due to stress, because believe you me them years ago when i was left to deal with a mortgage on my own i couldnt afford and to try sell the house i was sooooooooooooo stressed and so worn out that my periods still arrived on time every month so i personally dont believe me stressing over ttc is affecting my periods now just wondering if someone can shed some light or give me advice on how to shift this weight and see if I get my BFP due to loosing the extra stone..

Any advice would be really good.. xxxxxx

Hi Beauty,

Extra weight can be bad for fertility as apparently you produce more oestrogen than if you weren't overweight. I agree with you that I wouldn't have thought a stone would make much difference but I've read that even losing a few a few lbs can help your chances of getting pregnant.

There's a PCOS and Weight Loss thread on here that you might find useful. There's a couple of us doing Slimming World (I've lost 1st 5lbs so far) a couple on meal replacement plans and a few going it alone but it's good for support.

If you're finding it difficult you could maybe try some alternative therapies such as accupuncture or hypnosis. I've known people to get results for various things from both and I'm currently having acupuncture for fertility (I have my 3rd session today so FX!)

Good luck and hope to see you on the PCOS thread!

Hi,

I am under infertility treatment too. I am still fighting to loose one stone, but I have noticed that after I have stopped smoking I put more on, that seems to be normal, but I decided to go back to the gym with a personel trainer, I am using a Compression Garment, I changed by dieting to my blood type diet and I am reading more about health articles. I have lost a little bit, but it is working very well. I hope my tips it helps. Good luck!

It is true that losing weight helps - it did me anyway! I was 13 stone (5'3" tall so about three stone overweight) and did the atkins diet because I had tried everything else (and I do mean everything!), anyway, I lost around one and a half stone and 3 months later, BFP!! Exercise is soooo important - all I did (and still do) is walk everywhere - and I do mean everywhere! I don't drive so, me and my daughter (in her buggy) have to walk anywhere and use public transport. We just get off a stop or two early and get on 2 stops later than we need. I also ran upstairs about 20 times a day (I still do after my daughter!). I think the weight loss just kick starts hormones and that's why it makes a difference. I'm trying again now but, I'm 13 stone again and this time, Atkins hasn't worked :(. Back to the drawing board eh?

I hope it happens for us all, I really do. I read about child cruelty and it sickens me that these people don't realise how lucky they are to have such a precious gift xxx

I have also been told that by loosing weight will help. I was in total 7 stone overweight before I found out that I had PCOS. I am currently 4 stone overweight and have lost 3 stone on the Weight Watchers plan. This is the only plan that has worked for me, well. I also go to the gym, aerobics and aqua aerobics to aid my weight loss. Good luck to everyone! xx
