Hi I wonder if anyone could help

About 5 years ago I had two miscarriages and after tests was found to have cysts on my ovaries......a blood test prior to this indicates polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The fertility doctor I was then sent to arranged the scan (which confirmed the cysts) and also arranged for my tubes to be dye tested for blockages. My tubes were clear.

Before my follow up appointment to discuss assisted conception methods I was found to be pregnant and went on to have a daughter......two years later I had my son.

As I've not needed help to conceive despite the pcos I have not returned to the doctor to manage the condition until now.

I'm now 32 and a good 5 stone overweight. I find losing weight incredibly difficult and my slimming world consultant has recommended I see the doc about medication to help the pcos and hopefully this will help me lose weight (I've lost 1stone in4 years).
My slimming world consultant is also pcos and takes metformin.

I guess what I am asking is will the doctor prescribe this if I am not looking to conceive?

Many thanks

Most doctors do if they feel that it is necessary. I currently have pcos and was diagnosed 2.5 years ago. I wasn't placed on Metformin because my blood levels were ok and I didn't need it. If you are trying to lose weight, look into this program called Yoli. It's pricey but worth it. My mom has lost 60lbs in 8 months and swears that it is easy. I am looking in to it myself. There are lots of women that have tried it with pcos and with the amount of weight they have lost, have managed to get their hormones under control without birth control or any other types of medication. But just keep in mind, metformin isn't for everyone because it is a diabetes drug.

I have PCOS and lost weight to conceive. The only way I can lose weight is to follow a low GI diet and do cardio. Must admit it's all gone back on since having a baby but I lost 4 stone in 6 months and the weight loss was consistent while I stick to the diet.

The myfitnesspal app really helped keep track of what I ate.
