My friend has ALL the symptoms of PCOS

She was tested 6 years ago for PCOS but it came back negative. However 6 years later she still has terrible signs that it is this, her AF has gone missing, its painful during sex, she has excess hair in places it shouldn't be, she struggles to loose weight, she is ALWAYS in pain in her tummy, her periods are extremely heavy and last a long time.

She has been to the doctor so many times but no one will refer her again as she says she's already been tested. Surely after 6 years something could change and she may have it now?! she's begged, cried but the doctors wont do any more tests. not even a blood one to check her testosterone level as I'm sure its not right with her excess hair etc.

I so frustrated for her, she is so upset. What can she do? I've suggested complaining about the surgery, looking into private care, taking her mum with her to insist further.

Did anyone go private to be diagnosed and do you know the costings?

Any help much appreciated, she's one of my bessie mates and I can't bare to see her like this :nope:

I would insist on a second opinion. My doctors didn't want to know about my PCOS until I was TTC. All they did when I was diagnosed was put me on the BCP. I regularly asked should I have regular check ups etc and they said no

Ah what a nightmare. Well she tried BCP anyway but she has a history of clots etc in her family and she begun to get a headache so they took her off it straight away.

She's at her wits end bless her. Perhaps its endometriosis.

She's seen 4 different doctors at the same surgery and no one will refer her again. Ugh!

Surely she can demand to be sent to a specialist. She's got to stick to her guns if she's suffering they can't leave her like it

She has been demanding she says, she left the docs in tears this morning but they won't budge! wtf! so frustrating I want to bop them one for leaving her like this!

I've suggested she take her mum and tell them she's going to go every week until they refer her.

Can't understand the lack of empathy and patient care. Terrible doctors wouldn't trust them with my life! x

How about she complains to the practice manager who runs the surgery. The other thing is if she's in that much pain that its unbearable then maybe go to the hospital. Or is there an NHS walk in clinic near her? you don't have to be registered there, just an idea xx

The painful sex thing sounds more like endo but youre right, the rest sounds like pcos. In her position I would find a private sexual health clinic and request a vaginal ultrasound - they can have a good look at her womb lining and ovaries. That should show anything sus. My pcos was very visible on the US - even I could see it!!

Oh and I think a scan is in the regions of £100-250. Fair price for peace of mind, I think x
