pelvic floor exercises dont seem enough to stop leaking

hi,just wondered if anyone is struggling with holding in no.1's since giving birth...ive been trying my pelvic floor exercises,but not great success,esp when the weather really turns cold!!
ive been accepted to have the op they do which tightens the loosened pelvic floor muscles,but they say the side affect can be that you cant pee!! arghhh...so am still thinking about it,and my sons approaching 2 soon...
any advice or has anyone heard or had this op at all ?
