I gave birth to our daughter, stillborn, in the beginning of February. By end of March I was still slightly bleeding so I went in for a D&E for a teeny piece of retained placenta on Thursday March 24, despite bloodwork before the procedure showing hcg below 5. My OB used a camera and made sure he got the piece out (it was about .5"), leaving the rest of my uterus untouched. I stopped bleeding from that last Sunday the 27th.
I started my period yesterday - it's my first PP period, and my OB confirmed that it could happen so soon since my uterine lining was healthy during the procedure and my HCG levels were down even before I had the d&e.
Now, when I had the d&e he told me 4 weeks pelvic rest, and at my follow-up last Friday didn't do a pelvic exam since it had only been 8 days. My question is, beyond the pelvic rest we were told we could TTC as soon as I had my first AF. While I'm super excited to have my AF already, the timing is a little rough - if I ovulate on time (like I did before I got pregnant), I will ovulate about 4-5 days after I hit 3 weeks pelvic rest. My husband and I would need to DTD at least 3 days before and leading up to my O date to have a chance at conceiving this month.
Obviously I know none of you ladies are doctors, (unless one of you is?!), but I'm curious. It seems to me that by having AF my cervix would be healed enough after AF ends to start DTD when I'm no longer bleeding. I also know that many ladies have been told no pelvic rest for anywhere from 1-3 weeks, and I feel as though my doctor's orders were a bit conservative but again I'm no doctor and I typically follow their orders to the T.
I don't want to risk infection but again - because I have my period already, wouldn't that signal that my cervix is healed/my uterus is clearing out for the next potential pregnancy as it does each month? I know that by having my period my uterus would be healed once it ends. I'm happy to wait 3 weeks, but because of my potential O date I don't think I'd want to wait the 4 - it'll have been nearly 12 weeks since our loss once I ovulate. What do you ladies think?
