Hi all - wonder if anyone can help me out with my problem - persistent thrush. Was diagnosed with systemic thrush when my baby was 4 weeks old. Treated with dactarin cream on my nipples and in baby's mouth, and then several (5) courses of Fluconozole. This clears up the thrush in the short term but it never quite gets rid of it and it always comes back. Doctor now not keen for me to have any more Fluconozole. Baby now 6 months old and would love to keep breastfeeding.

Anyone got any more ideas of any other remedies that might help? Have tried acidopholus; grapefruit seed extract; altering diet - all to no avail. Desperate to keep going to 1 year as baby thriving on breastmilk but very scared about thrush coming back.

Any ideas very very much appreciated!

:hugs: Well done for keeping on going with it - you've done so well persisting and trying all those things. I was going to say Fluconozole but you've had 5 (!) courses already. If no one has any suggestions on here you could try the nct breastfeeding helpline - 0300 330 0771.

Hope you don't have another episode of thrush and if you do that you find something to treat it and stop it coming back xxx

I was going to suggest the gentian violet as well. The prescriptions never worked for me and Hayden only that did and QUICK too. It stains everything so be careful but much better than being in pain

Thanks for all your suggestions - really helpful.

We did try genetian violet but only for a few days as I was a bit worried about effect on baby. I didn't notice any improvement so stopped. Can I ask how many days it took for you to notice a change?

C (and baby Tess)

I noticed it stopped hurting as much after about 24-48hrs it did take a few more days to full clear up though
