This morning, I came across a petition to have health insurance cover infertility treatments and I wanted to share it with everyone struggling to have a baby.

Personally, I'd be thrilled to see even a small change...maybe something where insurance would have to help a couple have their first child, at LEAST! Its heartbreaking to see others in my position, wasting even more time trying to afford a round of IUI or IVF, while maintaining enough financial footing to afford the child when he/she arrives.

In my opinion, everyone deserves help to have at least 1 without it being a financially crippling experience!

Please sign if you agree!!!

We need to bring as much attention to this as possible in the next 3 weeks!!!
:)

Woohoo! :)

It needs to get 100,000 votes in 30 days to get official attention, so FX!!

I signed and hubby too. Sharing to get more! Thank you for letting us know!

Hooray, and you're very welcome!
We need to bring a lot of attention to this petition quick! :)

Three more weeks to get 97,000 more votes, and with our help it is slowly gaining momentum!!! :happydance:

I signed! I also shared on my Facebook wall. I am just waiting for all the backlash about politics and how much their insurance premiums will rise, etc. :dohh:

I know what you mean! Its frustrating.

Some of us (like myself) have no other medical issues. I literally have NO other reason to use my health insurance. The ONLY part of my body that malfunctions and needs assistance functioning properly is my reproductive system. I have a very healthy lifestyle and never get sick, but I'm legally required to carry expensive insurance now, and it won't cover the ONE thing I would need it for.

What a waste of money!...$200/mo. ($2,400/yr.) insurance premium, right out the window.
Useless.. :(

THIS. I've used my husband's insurance only for the infertility and nothing is covered. What is the freaking point?!

I've also received a comment about the petition I shared on Facebook. I get not everyone will share the same view but please don't try to convince me otherwise when you haven't been infertile and was able to get pregnant easily. ](*,)

I wish I could sign, I am in Canada.

Isn't it disgusting that people can be treated for cancer that is self inflicted (sometimes) by things like smoking and yet we have not done anything to cause infertility yet we are not covered.

You all need to move to Quebec where infertility treatments, up to 3 ivf cycles including fets are free. My daughter was conceived that way :cloud9:

Why is it free you may ask? Well all healthcare is free here. Some of the most expensive care for the government is premature babies. ( my son was a micropreemie so I know that topic very well!) The biggest source of preemies is multiple births. The biggest source of those is... Yep you guessed it, fertility treatments.

So the government passed a law that only one embryo could be transferred per cycle. Obviously people were unhappy with this, knowing how expensive Ivf is. So in return the government covered the cost.

Think about it: my son was in the nicu for 105 days. At 2000-2500$ a day in costs to public healthcare his stay cost a quarter million dollars. In contrast Ivf is a mere 4000$. So that's 62 ivfs covered. If this prevents even 2 preemies the system pays for itself.Obvioisly mu numbers are approximate but we'll know in a few years if that pans out. Already the new liberal government has restricted access to the program. Funny to say but im glad I had my daughter before ha.

Nicu costs in the states are more than double (a real tragedy and what happens when you let private companies dictate costs but don't get me started on that, I've lived in the states too ;) ) . so imagine the savings! Though I'm pretty sure Ivf is more expensive too...

You guys reaaally need public healthcare! Obamacare is a first wobbly step but oh well... Pass the word!

First of all, I signed the petition so let's hope it gets heard! Im new to this infertility thing. After 8 months TTC our second we went to re and just got SA results back which don't look good. So my question is, does health insurance not cover anything?? I was reading up and thought I saw that it is covered.

vermeil - I even thought about going to Quebec, I am in Ontario. I know that they are trying to get the same program here for IVF, not sure when it is going to be introduced.
