I can't believe my son is 3 months old already! Here's how it went down.

I was put on bedrest at 35 weeks, I had started to dilate (1-2cm) and was stil working full time in a very busy chemotherapy outpatient unit (registered nurse). I was having frequent contraction for weeks, and Dr. finally put her foot down and said I had to stop work. At 36 weeks she said I could be up and around at home and keep my daughter (2 years old) with me.

At 37 weeks they did an ultrasound because I was measuring big, and it said he was already almost 8 pounds. Dr said she was sure I would go anytime.

Well, long story short, she offered to break my water (and induce if needed) for me at 39+3 and I took her up on it because I was miserable and contracting all the time.

The morning of the induction, I went into labor on the way to the hospital (funny how that happens). Steady contractions every 3-5 minutes, I was at a 3 when I got there at 7:30am. She broke my water and said she'd come check me in 4 hours. I was having regular contractions, mostly in my lower back. this was way different than when i had my daughter, all those contractions were in the front.

At 1130, she checked me and i was still at a 3-4cm, and she wanted to give me a little pitocin. i had pitocin with my daughter, and was familiar with it. I agreed to go ahead. This is where it got hard.

15 minutes into the pitocin, the back labor seriously kicked in. within 1 hour i was in HELL. i had no idea how to cope with that kind of pain. i was dilated to a 4-5, the nurse i had was more concerned with charting than paying attention to me. she just kept saying "having a baby is supposed to hurt."

Finally, after crying uncontrollably for almost another hour (I never cried once during labor or delivery with my daughter) and trying to stay calm, i told the nurse that i absolutely needed the epidural RIGHT NOW. Fast forward 20 minutes, the epidural was placed and boy's heart rate dropped and we had to do the rolling around and oxygen (just like with my daughter). They checked me and i was at a 7. I started to relax a little, still had a lot of pressure in my back but it was very tolerable.

about 10 minutes later (it was about 3:00pm) I told the nurse that i felt like she needed to check me. the less experienced nurse (that i was already mad at) told me she had just checked me and i was only at a 7. I looked at the other nurse, who was my nurse when i delivered my daughter and she must have seen something in my eyes because she came right over and checked me. she immediately said "it's BABY TIME! get the Dr. here right now!"

The Dr. ran in at 3:13pm, i started pushing, and our son was born at 3:20pm.
I barely tore, only had 3 stitches.

He was a lot smaller than everyone expected him to be. 7lbs 6 ounces, 21 inches long. perfect in every way! He had a little "road rash" on his face because he pretty much flew out.

My mom, dad, and husband were there to witness the birth. My parents are divorced and happily remarried for the last 20+ years to other people but have both been at the birth of both my children. some people might think it's weird to have my dad in there, but he is a retired nurse and assisted in the births of literally hundreds of babies. he is so happy to have watched both his grandkids come into the world. All three of them were amazing and supportive during and after my labor.
