I understand what a posterior placenta previa is but could someone explain what this means

'Placenta previa posterior placenta covering os'

it's the 'covering os' that I don't understand.

I found a little info on this website

https://www.mountsinai.on.ca/care/placenta-clinic/complications/placentaprevia

I'm sure the OS part has a Latin term, but it's basically the internal opening of the cervix.

It means the placenta is covering the opening of the cervix I believe. It still has time to move as your placenta moves round as your bump gets bigger

Thanks ladies - I'm not worried about it as i'm having a planned section anyway so it shouldn't make to much difference to my plans.

The funny thing is i kept telling my OH that I thought my placenta was at the top of my bump so I couldn't have been more wrong!

Yeah..I'm a nurse. OS is the opening of the cervix. And posterior means back of the uterus. So it's mostly attached to the back but low enough to cover the cervix. Definitely a section, but you said it's a planned one anyway so no big surprise for you. xx Good luck!

Thank you very much for confirming this for me. I do believe it has a lot of time to move so you never know. I was told to just carry on as normal which ive been doing. I explained to the lady that I do a lot of bouncing on the trampoline which she said is perfectly fine so i'm pretty happy :)

Yeah that's fine! Only thing is you might pee yourself LOL

Hi when you say definitely a section do you mean it is unlikely to move from this position?

Mine is Posterior covering OS.

I have a scan tomorrow anyway so I will find out soon.

I just think it's unlikely to move at this point in your pregnancy..if you were say in your first tri then you'd have a lot of growing to still do, so the chances of it moving would be greater. You never know though, it may still move :) Be sure and ask your dr about the chances and all of your options. Are you wanting a vaginal delivery?

I was told at 20 weeks, now I am 32 weeks and scan tomorrow to see if it has moved. I think I'd rather vaginal delivery. But if it has to be c section so be it. I'll! Know more tomorrow I'm just impatient lol. Been waiting 12 weeks for this scan

That's a long time to wait! I'm lucky to get one per month. The only perk to being extremely high risk lol

Good luck! xx and please update :)

Laurabe - Let us know how you get on tomorrow.

PeaceLoveBaby - I have a shed loads of scans too due to being high risk. My next one is in 10 days to check my placenta out due complications with my daughter so i'm sure they'll tell me what's going on.

MishC, that's good. Glad they are watching you closely too! Sorry about the hijacking lol

Wishing you both the best xx

My placenta has moved up well out of the way. Still Posterior. Baby is in breech position at the moment so back for a scan in 4 weeks time to see if she has moved

That's great news! Now baby just needs to learn where the exit is ;) hehe

Yeh I'm sure she'll find her way, she's very active and plenty of time

Laurabe- Will she be your first?
