I just wondered what your input on these are. I want to buy my kids some balls for their playpen. The thing is, they usually say they are not suitable for kids under 3. Not sure if they say this to cover their backs and its fine if supervised, or there really is a reason. They are 5.5 cm diameter, and made of plastic. If these are not any good, does anyone know where they do sell such an item that would be friendly for kids under 1? Thanks x

I didn't know they weren't considered suitable for babies! I have about a hundred plastic balls in my 11 month old's playpen. He is always supervised, though. I'm not sure how they could possibly be dangerous?? They're too big to be a choking hazard and they can't pop or anything.

I was wondering if maybe some are suitable for babies and others aren't? Depending on size or material or something? I really don't know myself but I would really like to get some with my birthday money but unsure which to get X

It costs more for testing to market them as suitable for under 3s so with a low cost item like that they're probably just trying to protect their profit margins.

I thought something like that, but then looked on toyrus to see if they had any that were maybe more expensive but better quality, and there it says they are a chocking hazard

I used balls that must have been a bit bigger i think

I don't have any but the rules about what plastics can be used are much stricter for children under 3. I struggle to see how most of those balls could be a choking hazard given their size, but for children under 3 all plastics must be new and not include any recycled items so they can guarantee the plastic make up but this does make things cost more so I wonder if they label them as only being for over 3's then they don't have to follow those rules?

I got one of those play mats for my lo and it came with balls. Here is the one that I have and I am using with my lo way under 3 years

They'll be fine! My god daughters had a big ball pit on the passage way above their stairs since she was about 6 months. She takes great pleasure in throwing them all through the railings and down the stairs.
I really don't see how they could be a choking hazard!

"For ages 1 and over" and then "not suitable for under 3 years"

I'm not sure any of them even know themselves!

We use balls identical to that at some of the playgroups we go to, that's los two-three months old.

I had the same one and my son started playing with the ball pit part at 5 months
