Hi all, choosing a baby boy name has been a loooooong hard slog throughout this pregnancy. Choosing a girl name the first time round was so so easy in comparison!

For the entire pregnancy I've been fixated on gabriel. My OH was never keen but has tried his hardest to like it and come around to the idea. A couple of weeks ago he told me that he just could come round to it and so we started discussions again.

I suggested Monty and he immediately loved it..... Then low and behold the very NEXT DAY John Lewis released their Monty the penguin ad lol!! I wondered what opinions are on the name as I know it's not at all common. It would be Monty as a full name as I'm not keen Montgomery or montage. I'm worried they are a little pretentious. What kind of person does the name bring to mind for you ladies?? Oh and any middle name suggestions would be gratefully received!

Thanks,

Charlie x x

P.s. Ours DDs names is edeline, always shortened to edie... Fo you think they work ok together? X

I'm not a fan, sorry. No reason really.

The name reminds me of "Montel" when I hear it - so I picture Montel Williams & Montell Jordan.

I can't really picture a baby being named Monty. I think if I heard it, I would assume the baby was named after someone... more like a family name... rather than a name parents would just randomly come up with.

Immediately makes me think of Monty Python. Whom I like so it is a positive association.

I immediately think of The Full Monty... which is a great movie, but maybe not one I'd want associated with a baby. :haha: Could just be me, though!

It reminds me of the full monty and being naked BUT I like the originality and it is a name that would sound okay throughout life; cute kid name, fine adult name, and nice old person name too

I think it's cute and handsome but unfortunately does have the potential to sound slightly pretentious, especially as people may assume it's short for Montgomery, which to me is a name in the same class as Bartholomew or Tarquin...you know, posho! But then I am a common northern lass!

Not my cup of tea. My mind goes right to Monty Python or the full Monty. Neither of which you really want associated with a sweet little baby. I also do think it sounds pretentious.

Aw I love it, especially paired with Edie, such a cute sibling set! There was a little boy in my DS's class called Monty, he was so cute and he is who I think of when I hear the name Monty.

I actually work with a Monte, but until he started I never really heard the name. So points for a unique name that's not overly weird. It's not one that I would choose, but if you guys love it, go for it! Any sort if cartoon or whatever it is will be forgotten long before your child hits school aged.

I saw a Montague in a graveyard today who died at age 103 in the 1940s and thought of this thread :-).

I think Monty is a very cool name.

makes me think of mr. burns lol

Monty to me is a nickname not a name, Monte looks more like a name but I can only think of del monte foods

My male basset hound is named Montague, called Monty. He's super cute though!
Btw, we named him that because it is a regal, maybe pretentious (as others have said) name, and it just suits a basset!

I like it and it goes well with Edie x

Our next door neighbour named their Labrador Monty. It's a lovely name, just not something that makes me think of a baby. X
