i have very large breasts my current bra size is 38K the bra is a bit small now since giving birth and i think i'm probably a m cup now anyway. i am having great difficulty breast feeding on my right breast as my son doesn't latch on properly. he is 6 days old and nipple is really sore. belly button to belly button doesn;t work because my breast is too low down. pls help i'm crying when he's on this breast. thr only reason i dont give up is because my left breast is ok and i know that it can be nice to breast feed. i tried th lanisol i think thats the name or something similar but feel like its just making it worse......:hissy:

Aww hun i'm sorry you're having trouble. Maybe try breast shields for the time being whilst your nipple is so sore. I've never used them myself but I know they can work for some people. Hope things improve soon for you but don't feel you have to continue bf if its making you unhappy, your son will do just fine on expressed milk or formula. Good luck x

Do you think maybe the latch on that side is off? You can express a bit of milk after he feeds, rub it into the nipple and let it air dry. That will help. When you shower, be sure not to use soap to wash your nipples, just rinse with warm water, this will help prevent cracking. I have seen other large breasted women say that a small rolled up towel, placed under the breast helps prop it up for the baby to feed. Have you tried laying down to feed him, this might make latching him on easier. The first week is the hardest, you are doing fantastic hun, hang in there, it will get better.

speak to your health care lady or go to your breastfeeding group your health visitor will give you the phone number to book classes x x x x

I think lying down may help you get a better latch. Also, I would ask your midwife for some help. It would be a shame to give up now if you enjoy it. There are lactation consultants who can watch you feed your LO and offer you some helpful hints on how to improve the latch.

Sorry to hear about ur issues. I have larger boobies too. Is he having problems latching due to just the size of ur boob or is it a case of engorgement?

If it is engorgement try to have a warm shower and let a big of the pressure off. Then take a small blanket (reciever) and fold in half and then roll it up and put it under your boob to support it a bit and it will change the angle that LO is trying to latch at. This can help if you are sitting either with him facing you or in a football type position.

I always sat on the couch to feed LO (until we got better at it) with my back facing the armrest part and my right shoulder (when feeding on the right) into the couch wtih my hand cupping my boob and my left arm under LO. I found putting a pillow under LO helped us get more comfy.

Babies can have a preferance for a boob in particular too and if you find that that could be the case it was reccomended to me to put them on the one that they aren't so fond of after they have fed a bit on the one they like especially right before they are falling asleep.

Good luck, hope you can get things sorted, hang in there

Hi hun, I have big boobs too and found my little girl wouldn't latch onto my right breast with the regular cradle hold.... I can only get her to latch onto the right with the football hold.

Also got one of those v shaped pillows which are fantastic with bf'ing. :hugs:

Hun i'm the same i have big boobs and like poppeteer i found the rugby hold easier on the non prefered side ( with harley it's the right side) i also have a v pillow and love it as i can support him on it. You are doing brilliant hun keep up the good work xx
