My little boy is 2 days old.
I am determined to EBF but I'm finding it painful as I'm getting these milk blisters. My midwife has been and she has watched me feed, he latches well and says we are both naturals. The blisters are all yellow little blobs. It makes the first few moments of feeding really quite painful.

I've read ways of helping them heal online but is there anything you suggest that worked?

I do use lanisoh cream after every feed.

Also my breasts burn and tingle, what do you suggest to cool them down other than a cold flannel?

It takes a bit of time for your nipples to get used to the friction of lo suckling, I too used lanisoh cream and just persevered. I was skeptical about the whole cabbage leaf thing before I tried it but found it great. Keep the cabbage in the fridge and put a fresh leaf inside your bra when you finish a feed, amazing.

I had some blisters, but by 3 weeks they had all gone :) your boobs do toughen up :)

I found once the blisters pop they heal up! Lansinoh before and after feeding helps too.
I had this a lot with ds1 as he had a tongue tie so his latch wasn't great.

I persevere with the soreness. It's toe curling but I just have to breathe through his first few sucks. The worst bit is the lumps in my breasts where the milk is producing. SO sore, they didn't even fit in my tops!! But I've found a hot bath and hand expressing under the water helps along with some paracetamol. I think they're easing now and only producing what my lo needs x

hi - i remember seeing you in 3rd tri - congratulations on your LO :)

I struggled with BF loads in the beginning (I gave up twice!) I wouldn't believe anyone who was telling me it would get better but since we re-latched at 2 weeks we are still going 6 weeks later and i don't have any pain at all - my nipples are completely back to normal too

after feeding i would rub some BM into my nipples and leave them to dry before applying the lansinoh and leaving it to dry - i think the main thing that helped was letting the air get to them as much as possible. i would massage my breasts too if they were engorged and lumpy which helped a lot - that rarely happens now too, only if DD sleeps over 3 hours which isn't very often!

good luck and don't worry because it really does get better! :flower:

It's very early days hun.

For me bf was excruciating for a couple of weeks and then gradually got easier until about 8-10 weeks when finally there was no pain.

You'll get there. Xx

Thank you everyone. Today is day 5 and it seems he is learning to feed until he empties my breast.

It seems to be helping him sleep more too. He slept 11pm til 3.30 then fed and new nappy and then slept til 6.30 and fed then got up around 9

If the worst comes to the worst try nipple shields - they saved my feeding.

So pleased it's all feeling better today. It will all get easier, honest. Make the most of his longer stretches of sleep by getting as much as you can as well. A good bit of advise given to me by my mum and a midwife was to change ds's nappy before he fed, especially overnight, that way if he fell asleep on his feed he wasn't being disturbed again. It worked well for me as by the time he was 2 or 3 weeks old he rarely pooped (really normal with bf babies). Hope you start to feel better soon.

I have noticed this. He tends to cry and stress himself out during a nappy change. So I change him and then I'm able to calm him down with a feed :)

The burning etc might be letdown. Mine is quite uncomfortable, but it gets less so the longer you nurse. Good luck:)

i keep hearing 'let down' but don't actually know what it means?

When your milk starts flowing - usually when baby latches on. It also happens randomly when you end up soggy if your breast pads aren't in!

After your baby sucks for awhile, your milk starts really flowing. The letdown feeling is your milk flowing thru your milk ducts, its a slightly uncomfortable tigytening or burning feeling. It can be quite strong, mine starts spraying out in a stream if my babys not there to drink. Plus ill get my letdown every two hours like clockwork, even if my sons not nursing:)
