Hello everyone!

I am in York and here I don't get any cycles for IUI or IVF so my the fertility specialist at the York district hospital was supposed to refer me to a hospital in Leeds where I would be paying for my treatments. I expected that they would refer me to an NHS hospital but they have referred me to Spire Leeds Hospital. I can hardly find any Assisted Conception related information on their website so I am a little concerned. Has any one had any experience with them or any other Spire Hospital.
I am also concerned that it may be more expensive.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. My appointment is in two weeks time.

Thanks.

Hi Bigfoot, Im sorry I dont have any experience with them, but if you are paying for your cycles do you need to be referred? If you are paying privately surely you can go anywhere you like? Although I imagine the cost is similar. Sorry I cant be more help x

best thing to do is phone spire and ask to speak to the consultants secretary , she should be able to help you.
but as the above post says, is you are paying you should be able to go where ever you want

Hey bigfoot, I think I know where you mean. My OH had his reversal done there although they have recently changed names. As you say there is very little info on their website with regards to fertility treatment as I checked when we were being referred. We are self funding also. Our doctor sent us to st James in Leeds (the unit has just moved to seacroft)
It is a nice hospital/clinic, im not sure what the prices would be.

Thanks Obe! Do you think I can book an appointment for myself in St James or any other hospital in Leeds. I read some where that I need to be referred by my GP or my local specialist.

Good luck

Oh god that looked so bad I wish you all loads of luck

Hi there- I had treatment at the Leeds Ivf unit. I had three cycles- the first ended with a biochemical pregnancy and the second ended in a miscarriage at 12 weeks. I do know people who have got pregnant at Leeds though. I have to say that I didn't find the consultants particularly warm ( I had all my cycles privately).after my third cycle I dud start to have a look round to compare success rates at different hospitals and I would really recommend you do that ( hfea website) . From my research the care clinic in Nottingham was one of the best and from what I've heard the doctors and nurses are great too. There is also the argc in London which has the highest success rates( they monitor you really closely and are also happy to give you some of the more unconventional treatments like immunoglobulins)-that was going to be too far for me though.

With re to getting referred to anywhere privately you just gave to go to your Gp for them to make a written referral. I told my Gp I wasn't sure where I wanted to go so she wrote a generic referral letter which I sent on to the clinics I wanted to consider.

I hope that helps- like I said I do know people who got pregnant at leeds- but I just want to make sure you know there are other hospitals around. Have a look at thus book called 3 steps to fertility. The author marina Nicholas also replies to personal emails. It's a great book and just makes sure you know all your options.

Hi Bigfoot, I think you would need referring from your GP but I can give you the number if you want to call - 0113 2063102
I have found them to be very helpful and they do an open evening at the end of every month which I think anyone can go to.
Like I said, ST James and LGI have now merged and moved to a new department at the Seacroft hospital. This only just happened over xmas so its brand new!
Sorry to hear that Noonles - would you not go through Leeds ACU again?
I start ICSI in March (fingers crossed) self funding, so im hoping it works first time.
I know a friend of a friend who went for IVF at Leeds, she has just had a baby boy (first attempt)

xx

Thank you noonles for sharing all the information. Good luck with your pregnancy!

Obe I think I would go ask my GP for a referral then. Like noonles said maybe I can get a general one so I can look around and find the best one. And good luck with ICSI! I really do hope it works. I think we also have to do ICSI.

Thank you everyone!
