Ok Ladies,
I'm a bit concerned abt my 1 hour glucose test that I had done on Tuesday after fasting for 13 hours prior. I was able to get my results from the lab and the number was 139. Now the standard says anything over 130 represents 90% of women with GDM, but the ADA recommends another test at 140.
So why hasn't my docs office called me? I was clearly over 130 and almost 140. I called and asked the secretary and she looked at my results and said they were normal...(no offense to anyone) but she's a secretary. Is she qualified to tell me if mine and my baby's health is at risk? Could someone please offer some reassurance? I know this is nothing to mess with. Could I possibly have GD? Am I worrying for nothing?

I have been led to believe that 139 can indicate a pre-diabetic state, I reckon that you should make an appointment with your doctor/midwife to discuss your results. However what I would say is that before the secretary gives you the results they need to be signed off by a consultant, who generally add a note. If the person who looked at your results were worried then they would likely have added a note to this effect. Saying that I would think that a result of 139 would warrent a fasting blood sugar test. Hope you get this resolved hun. xx

Thanks plumplump! I was thinking the same thing. I'm on every 2 week visits now so at least it won't be long before I can see the doc. That secretary is more like his bodyguard. She intercepts every call and determines whether the MW or doc should be notified. I never really cared for her.

Anyone else bump?

With GTT results, you will generally find out within 24-48 hours. Since your test was on a Thursday, you could find out Monday. If you don't hear back from them on Monday, call and make an appointment on Tuesday.

Where I live, I was told that if your results are normal and there is nothing to worry about, then they won't call you.

I also had my GTT done on Thursday and I haven't heard anything yet either, but I'm not too worried.

I have GD but my fasting results on the 1 hr @ 9 weeks pregnant was 176. I've been insulin dependant since 11 weeks. If you are concerned I would call and speak with your Dr personally. Or just show up. But IMO, 139 is a little high, but not high enough to warrant a GD diagnoses. (Then again, I'm not a dr.) My SIL had a result of 137 and she thinks she is dying, so try not to worry about it too much.

Well I went to my appt on Monday and my doc didn't seem concerned. They said if it had hit 140 then I would have had the 3 hour gtt . I'm also measuring 3 weeks bigger and I know my dates are correct since I was charting.

Found it funny that you said that... I used to live in BC (still kinda do) and I lived by that motto for the longest time. When I came out here and did my first ever preg test they said the results would be in the next day (blood test) so I waited and waited and waited for a call that never came... end of the second day I called just to be told that I should have called the day before! I was shocked as that is a HUGE no no in BC

I'd definitely call. Another Mom on here had borderline (I think?) results and her doctor told her she was fine. She still felt like she did so she ended up borrowing a glucose monitor from a relative and her sugars were very high, and she did in fact have GD.

Goes to show, should always trust your gut.
