Please tell me I'm not a big bad monster!

Grace has had 10 minutes sleep all day so she is very very overtired. Which, along with her teething has been making her cry on and off. I decided to give her an early night so I gave her her dinner and put her in the bath, put her pjs on and gave her a bottle which she only had a bit of then she just started messing with it. I put some stuff on her gums and put her down and she was in an ok mood. I put her music box on and turned out the light and she started crying again. So I sat outside her door for a few minutes and she stopped and started babbling to herself. But I've come into my room and she's started crying again. There's nothing else I can do to stop her crying so I'm just going to let her cry it out until she gets tired and goes to sleep. Is that mean? I don't like sitting here listening to her cry but the only other thing I can do is keep her up with me which will make her more overtired. She is used to settling herself at night anyway. I feel mean and if she starts getting hysterical I'll go in but I think that's all she wants, some attention :(

I would be thinking "Is she teething? Maybe she needs some cuddles and reassurance :("

Oh I'm rubbish, I wish I had your strength! Keep at it mummy! You are NOT a big bad monster! You will definately benefit both of you from being constant. I'm rubbish at it!!

All we've done all day is cuddle. Well, me cuddling, her thrashing herself around. I was desperately wanting to go in and pick her up but I knew then once I put her down again I'd be back to square one. And she has gone quiet, checked on her, she's fast asleep :) now I can finally get some dinner, not eaten all day!

:hugs: You are not mean.Babies know how to get attention and they know that if you always go back and cuddle them when they cry they will keep doing it.Stick to it.She will get used to it and go to sleep once you put her down.be strong sweetheart.xxx :hugs:

Sometimes all they need to do really is CIO... we can only do so much and sometimes when they are ovetired seeing their mum can be overstimulating.

Hope it improves soon!

Thank you, I don't feel so bad now! The way I got her to sleep through was to put her down awake and not pick her up when she cried. It was hard but it worked. I knew as long as she'd been changed and fed all she was crying for was attention. But because she's teething I feel bad for leaving her because I know she's in pain. But like I said, I put stuff on her gums and she had a little calpol earlier, there's nothing else I could do to stop her crying but to let her tire herself out. Thankfully it's worked and I don't feel too bad about it now, just hoping she'll have a decent nights sleep!

Your not mean ... its fine...

Unfortunately I cant do this with courtney cos she dont just cry she bloody ROOOOOAAAARRRSS!!! So I have no choice or she gets so beside her self!!

aw bless her. I worked damn hard to get her to have a good night routine and I don't want to spoil it all no just cause she's teething. Cuddles in the day, sleep at night :)

You're not mean at all, sometimes there really is nothing you can do and have just let them figure it out on their own. :hugs:

you're not mean at all honey! well done you for keeping to a good routine. maddi has a very set bed time routine, we've been busy today so she hasn't slept as much and shes going to bed now, earlier than usual, she'll have her bottle and straight down :)

I completely agree!

I totally agree... there has been times especially in the earlier days when a bottle probably would have settled courtney and let me have some sleep.... but I felt what was the point in going backwards... she doesnt normally have a bottle at night so I will just have to hold it out!! And it worked to my advantage! :)

well done u, i do it i know when hes over tired so i let them cry it out and he settles himself now since i've been doing it
