PMS... the diet killer!!!!!

I don't really like saying "diet"- as I"m not on a diet, per se, but my diet (food intake) is where I have concerns. I've worked HARD to lose the weight and have been maintaining very well for a long time now- thanks to my loseit app (as I cannot be trusted on my own! lol).

Basically- I'm now working on what I'm eating (overall)- just healthier choices etc...

I know that our progesterone levels spikes before our period (which increases our appetite- and affects our body image). But, it's SO hard to contain my calories that week (i.e. this week) as I'm hungry ALL the frackin time! :wacko:

Any filling snacks or foods you've found that DO help? I'm open to just about anything at this point.

I already work out 6x's a week (burning 400-500 calories each workout)- so that helps... but it's still hard and I feel like I take 2 steps back "that" week the monster comes! :dohh:
 
I drink a ton of water, and plan to give into cravings during the week. If I do really want something I just accept that I will be eating at maintenance calories, and I can resume a calorie deficiency the next day. Not much help snack-wise, since I usually end up devouring pizza. :haha: Have you tried protein snacks, like chicken or eggs?
 
I do drink a TON of water! lol. And loads of protein... it's just so crazy how my normal eating I'm fine then suddenly, during that times- it feels like nothing is enough! :haha:

Maybe I need to just snack a LOT all day- no big meals? IDK. Can't hurt to try though! haha. I'll have to hit the store this week and come up with a plan for the next time the PMS monster hits me! lol
 
I'm totally the same way! You could try snacking instead of big meals, or maybe eating later in the day (skipping breakfast, etc and then eating all of your calories between noon-bedtime). Tea seems to help hold me over too whenever I want to consume everything in sight. Distractions to get your mind off food are good too! :)

Hope you figure out something that works!

I would probably pick one day in that week where I could indulge in a particular craving. It's onky once every 4 or so weeks for normal women (I don't have a very regular period) and I think a treat day once a month is good.

I do allow for treats (keeps me sane! LOL)- but usually balance it all out well otherwise. But yeah- when PMS hits, my will-power goes out the window! So one treat leads to 2... or 3... etc... :haha:

Don't even want to say how many calories I'm already over for the week (and it's only Thurs!). oops. Oh well- I know this is just one week and won't negate all the hard work I do... :flower: Thanks!
 
PMS is the absolute WORST for me, as you said, pure diet killer. I crave chocolate and soda soooo bad around af, this month I gave in, and it was horrible. I went through a bag of chocolate and a 6 pack of mnt dew :dohh: now that af is finally over, I'm hoping I can make a quick recovery, because giving all that stuff up to begin with is NOT easy. I really hope I'm not going to have to do it every single month. I am so terribly weak willed, though at least I've been able to keep up my 5 days a week at the gym schedule!
