Hi,

My LO is nearly 7 months old. I am weaning him on home made food and for the moment I am still breastfeeding. I'm doing a mix between TW and BLW.

I don't know what portions I should be giving him. For example so far today I have given him a quarter of a Wheetabix in milk. Lunch was mashed banana but he would only accept three or four mouthfuls. Yesterday he ate all of his banana portion which was one quarter of a banana.

Tea tonight is going to be pasta in homemade carrot and tomato sauce with lentils.

Usually I serve him enough to almost fill one of those little Tommy Tippy freezer pots. He rarely finishes it.

Is this enough food?

Hi hun my Lo is 14 months and we had his hv over couple of days ago as new to the area and she mentioned portion sizes.
This is a few examples what she showed me;
1 tablespoon of baked beans
half to one full wheetabix
half a banana
3/4 chips
half a slice of bread a day

i was quite shocked at how little of things they needed at first.

My LO normally has 1-2 bananas a day, 1 to 1& half wheetabix, 7/8 chips, 1 slice bread/toast and probably 3 spoonful of beans so you can see he would normally eat more than recommened portion but his weight is fine hes very tall too.

I hope that can give you a idea of the portions hun x

I always worried about portion sizes with my first LO, this time round I just dont worry!

LOs portion size is how much they eat.

My LO is 8.5 months old now and at 7.5 months he would have 1/3 of a weetabix for breaky.

In grams, I did read somewhere recently that a 9 month old portion size is around 220g per meal, so I would say that about 100g at 7 months. My LO takes around 150g max per meal.

Dont know if that is of any help....:flower:

At 7 months my LO would eat about the same amount as your LO, food before 1 isnt highly important its more to get them used to it at your LOs age milk is still more important so i wpuldnt worry about not giving him enough till hes closer to 1 hun x

My little boy eats and eats now that he's on solids. He's been on solids for three weeks. For breakfast he'll have half a baby weetabix with mashes up fruit - will usually eat half. I can fill a baby bowl with baby cereal and fruit and he'll eat it.
Dinner is 3-4 spoons of baby rice or mashed potato with 1-2 freezer pots of veg. Soon to be meals now he's had his tastes. He barely drinks milk.. 2-3oz except at bedtime or if he wakes early, then he'll have a 6oz bottle. Do you think this is too much food? He prefers it to his milk, digestive system is fine, is drinking water.. X

Agree a portion is however much they want to eat!

For example my lo will take about 1-1.5oz (so half a TT freezer pot) at lunch and about 2-2.5oz (so a whole TT pot) at tea time. She's 6.5 months.

She will also nom on a rice cake or baby biscuit too, but virtually none of that is actually eaten.

My son is a little past 8 months and he has "hungry" days and "not so hungry"
days. Like some of the others said, I kind of go with the flow. I was more obsessive with it with my first son. It is nerve wracking and confusing sometimes, especially with your first. This baby is so much larger than my first son, and seems to have a much bigger appetite.
