Lucas Owen was born at 9.11pm on 29/10/12 weighing 9Ibs and 53cm long.

I was convinced throughout my entire pregnancy that I would go early. After I got past the worrying 24-32 week period I was still sure he would come early. I was quite surprised when I was still pregnant and getting close to 40 weeks. My other three were 40, 40+5 and 39+5 so I guess I should not have expected any different. On the 27th I started to get regular BH that were 5 minutes apart for a couple of hours. We DTD to try and move them on. After a few hours of them I went to the hospital to have a coffee and wait and see. We were in the hospital from 3am -5am on 28/10/12 until we came home full of coffee, tired and confussed.

All weekend they went on and off but never giving me that sure sign. By Monday (my due date) I'd had enough of BH's, then I got that achy period pain that I had been looking for, I had it all afternoon and Lucas' movements were rare and slow. I got excited but tried to not get my hopes up. Then at around 3pm I got a couple of strong contractions around 10 minutes apart. I decided to take the children to my mothers and as it was the middle of the afternoon and had a few more on the way back so I suggested another coffee in the hospital. We got our stuff together and went down to catch a bus around 5pm. As I was getting on the bus I had a strong contraction, then another on the bus. At one point a drunk sneaked on the back and he had a can of beer in his pocket and it spilled. I thought I would throw up and this made my contractions stop for a while. As we got off the bus I had another two that where 6-8mins apart. We sat having coffee and they came and went. By this time I was not sure if this was another false alarm and I was so fed up not knowing so around 6pm I made the decision to go up to maternity assessment and ask a midwife to check and let me know. I told the midwives about my BH and they asked me to take a seat. As I sat there I got a few contractions that actually made me grab DH's hand so I went back and told a midwife b that now I was sure I was in labour. When she found out it was my 4th she bundled me ahead and into a room, this was around 6.30pm. She gave me an internal and the bad news that my cervix was soft, possibly opening but far back. After my previous precipitate labour this was not the news I wanted. She took my blood pressure and it was high. She said she would do a few more readings. They were consistantly high and by now I was having more contractions that actually meant something. When I went to do a urine sample I had some show so I was hooked up to a contraction monitor and baby was monitored. By 7pm they were reaching 40 and by 7.45 they were 50-60. When she came back she was surprised and said you should go to the birth unit. I wanted to go to the midwife led unit so she took lots and lots of BP readings to get the magic one that would give me the green light, but my blood pressure was still high. Eventually the contractions were strong that I no longer cared about the ML unit and just wanted my own room, so I was transfered to the birth unit which I walked to :haha: I got into the room at 7.50pm where the doctor and midwife met me, the doc gave me a BP pill and said I would be monitored. At this point I could feel my waters bulging. It was causing a lot of stinging so the midwife cracked out the Gas and Air and before getting into the gown and getting ready, I went to the toilet to avoid going during labour, which worked. At 8.55pm my waters popped to which I think I said 'OH thank god for THAT' it was amazing and I could feel the baby's head moving down and giving me that pressure in my bum really strong. I was relaxing and completely calm, as a week before I had read a hypnobirthing book and decided to put it into practice. I cannot recommend it enough. I had a feeling of amazing euphoria and almost pleasure as I concentrated on each contraction that was bringing him to birth. I could really feel my body could do everything on it's own, and when I relaxed the pain was gone. I started pushing at 9pm and stopped the Gas and Air. At about 9.05 four doctors came in for some reason, probably as I was still being monitored. They asked if I needed any intervention and I shouted 'No he's coming he's coming' two seconds later the room was empty again but for the dimmed lights, radio and midwife and I went back to nature again. I breathed him out at 9.11pm shortly after informing DH this is THE LAST baby. DH filmed my birth and I love that I will have a calm and positive record of it to share with my daughter, in the hope that if she ever wants to have a baby she can avoid the fear and pain I did with my first.

My little squishy is finally here and completes our now HUGE family. :cloud9:

Congratulations on the birth of your baby!
