Hey ladies, I'm currently nearly 32 weeks pregnant and had a scan last week which showed my placenta is still low lying (this was first spotted at my 20w scan). I've a final scan at 34 weeks to confirm whether or not my placenta has moved up but they said that realistically they don't think it will in 2 weeks.
So basically I'm petrified of getting this operation. I've never had surgery before and I'm also wondering about the recovery time after? Will I be able to care for my baby as I would if I had a natural birth? All advice appreciated! Xxxx

sorry to hear you have a low lying placenta, i hope it moves up for you :hugs:

after my section i was very sore and i found it alot harder to get around ect, alot of people have sections and cope looking after a baby without any problems :)

I had a low placenta, and as such had a c section with DS. My recovery was fab, i could move around just fine after a couple of days, the previous couple of days i could shuffle. I could hold baby from the start and feed too. Two years on and I cant even see my scar!!!! Im now booked to have an elective c section with this baby....hence it cant have been that bad!! Its better to go with an elective than end up with an emergency section....they arent the best recovery!!

Thanks for your replies! I've been researching it a lot and not as scared as what I was :) what will be will be as long as baby arrives safe and healthy xxxx

HI KRA

I had a elective C section as my son was breech and I didn't want a ECV, so after having two easy natural births, I was freaking out and being 126kg, was even more worried of complications, infections etc...

I was worried about nothing, that night after it all went well and was very quick, I was walking around my room, (slowly but surely), now my wee boy is 6 weeks and Im as right as rain, had no infections yet, scar is nothing, no complications all is good.

Try not to worry (which is so hard as that's what they told me) think positive and you will be fine, try and get motivated to move slowly take it easy and enjoy your precious bundle of joy! Good luck and ask any questions I will try and answer as best I can. Mum to 3 2 V births 1 c section. :)

Don't be scared, most people with planned CSs go back for future electives so they can't be that bad. I had one and if I have more kids, they'll be CSs as well.
The first day is the worst and every day after that will be easier. By the 10th day, you can do almost everything you could before just with a bit of pain. Just follow the instructions and DON'T lift anything until 8 weeks no matter how well you feel, it will only set your recovery back.
The two most important things for me were stool softeners so you can poop after without using your stomach muscles and a stroller in the house with a pram to bring my baby around the house with me.... and this didn't occur to me until about 4 days later, but it really helps to just sit down in the shower to wash your hair and shave your legs! :flower:

I have had 4 c-sections now and he recovery is fine. It hurts, but not ask much as you might think.

With you having low laying placenta i strongly urge you to look at the information on this site: www.vasapraevia.co.uk. I lost my son at 41 weeks to a condition called Vasa Praevia and one of the risk factors is a low lying placenta, even if it "moves" which mine did. PM me if you have any questions, i am always happy to help. :)

Hey hun

Im in the same boat as you im 31+3 and have a complete placenta previa (first seen at 20 week scan) ive had some bleeding on and off so they gave me an emergency scan last week and although my placenta has moved a smidge its still mostly covering. Im being scanned again at 36 weeks to see if its moved if not then its a c-section :(
I know what you mean about being scared im terrified
Good luck for your scan hun i really hope it moves for you xxxxxxxxxxxx
