So this morning, my water broke as I was dressing for class. I'd been cramping for the past few days and since then, the cramps have gotten more painful. I called my dr. and she said that it was possible preterm labor and that I should just hang tight until she calls me back.

What am I supposed to do until then?! I've been waiting for 2 hours for that phone call now. Baby is still kicking.. hard. but i don't know what to think or do! i'm really scared about what's going on. :nope:

**Update on page 2*

I'd go straight to A&E if you're waters have broken!
Hope you're okay. x

hello! i've been called back! i'm going for a sonogram at 4pm and hopefully they'll be able to tell me what's going on then.

Go straight to the maternity unit & demand to be seen I would...... x

hun if you think your waters have broken and you are only 21weeks pregnant I would get myself to a hospital and checked ASAP

Same, I would go to the hospital now..If you were say 30 weeks then maybe it would be okay to wait, but I personally would go in immediately if my water broke at 21 weeks. When I thought my water went at 28 weeks, they took me in within the hour.

Yeah uh, your 21 weeks, your water broke and you're midwife is going to do a scan?
Yeah no, that's not what needs to be done. They need to start pumping you with steroids to make sure that baby stays in there. She's not nearly ready to come out yet, odds aren't good if she does.

Go to the emergency room, now. You can't wait until 4pm.

Yeah, I am clearly not a MW, but you are 21 weeks and your water just broke. She should be telling you to go to the hospital right away, not scheduling a scan for later today!!! I would just go to the ER anyway and demand to be seen.

Sorry to write again and I don't want to hurry you or upset you, but please go straight to hospital, regardless of what your MW has said.

I thought my waters had broken a number of times, all of which I was up the hospital within the hour! Even if it's a flaso alarm or something at least your mind is at rest, please go.

are you okay?? i've been worrying about you ever since I read this post!!

Wtf, I would complain about your MW. No MW would advise a patient to wait hours if there was suspected pre-term labour, it's completely unethical.
Who cares if baby is kicking? That does not mean they are okay, it could be distress. Go to the hospital, straight away and ask questions when you get there.

I hope you and your little one are safe and everything is okay :( how worrrying!!

How wrong of your midwife, thats shocking! :nope:

x

hello everybody! i did go straight to the dr office as most of you said to. I was there for a couple hours. They checked and said my fluids were fine and that the cramping was just braxton hicks (though i've had several within a short period of time). My blood pressure was very high, and the dr said she would keep an eye on that and see me in a couple weeks. LO is fine, doing very well, actually.
Basically, I'm not allowed to stand as much as I have been at work (I work in the food industry, so I'm on my feet 6-8 hours a day). She said it's been stressing my body too much and that I should rest more often. She's going to check for a UTI, because she said that may explain the pain in my lower half.
That said, I don't feel like I've been well informed of what happened, why it's happening, and what to expect. I do plan on switching practitioners soon.
