I have my elective c-section scheduled for this coming Wednesday, and I was wondering, for anyone whos had a c-section before, how long did you bleed after? and what all were you able to use to keep it contained? lol i understand this may all sound weird. but i'm not exactly a pad person. i havent worn a pad since i was 12 or something like that. I REALLY prefer to use tampons. is this safe to use afterwards?

thanks in advance for any advice! :flower:

Hi I had my c section on christmas and I'm still bleeding now:cry:..I really do want it to stop..I've never used tampons before so I really don't know:shrug:

I bled for about 4 or 5 weeks but only heavily for the first week or 2. I was advised not to use tampons due to the risk of infection. I found that maternity pads were grand forcontaining the bleeding.

I bled heavily for 10 days. Then at 4 weeks it came back with a vengeance, so much so they thought I was haemorrhaging. Tampons aren't safe to use after a c section due to risk of infection. I was told not to use them until my first af afterwards. I used maternity pads the first 4/5 days, then just normal pads for heavy flow, and worked down to just normal pads. I hadn't used them in years, but it's the safest option. Plus, those first few days I was so bruised and sore, I don't think I'd of been able to use tampons even if I wanted too!!

Thanks ladies!! I guess tampons are a no-go ): good thing I stocked up on huge pads (: :flower:
