So, after baby # 2, it seems I now have a small umbilical hernia. Has anyone had this and had it repaired? I have heard horror stories about mesh repairs causing lasting pain, so I would rather the method where they sew it up...but I am unsure what to expect with the entire surgery, the scar, the potential for long-term or chronic pain etc.

Has anyone had this experience? I can't find much online.

Hello....although it is now a year ago my midwife told me I had one of these hernias just above my belly button, I didn't notice it until a week after my c section...though I was told it would most probably go by itself and it did after about 4 weeks....it was like a golf ball, wasn't painful but in the way if that makes sense, hope this helps :flower:

I had one removed, was just minor surgery, took about a week to recover if I remember rightly (was a long time ago) x

I've got 3 epigastric hernias which are just a bit higher than umbilical ones and have already met my surgeon with regards repair l.

Mine have been present since birth my mother tells me but have not caused problems until now. I am meeting surgeon again at 6 weeks post baby (due April 3rd) to get organised for getting them fixed finally.

I don't know yet however how they will do it though I expect they'll be sewn up as I'm having open surgery under GA.

Sorry can't help more yet! I can report back after meeting with team again soon :)

Good luck with your repair! I had an inguinal hernia that I had repaired several years ago, that the surgeon told me was present since birth. It was a great experience, no pain, easy healing, perfect. I hope it goes well!
