My son is 2 and a half and has now been dry (wee wise) for about 2 weeks now and we are all super proud. But for some odd reason he will not poo in his potty and will hold it in until he has "poo pants" (pull up) on or he is bursting and ends up having an accident.
I've tried distraction and talking to him and reassuring but nothing is helping so far.
Any tips? Anyone else experienced this fear of pooing?
What should i do?
Thanks in advance x

Think that's very normal!!!! He'll get the hang of it! Just keep calmly encouraging him! Let him read a book on the potty when you sense he has to go. My only advice with potty training is just don't force it - he will do it when he wants and it takes time to get #2 in the right spot! Sounds like he's doing great so far!

Thankyou so much, i hate feeling like hes scared to do it and when he does finally let loose its hurts his bum because he's waited so long. Slightly relieved its a common thing. Guess we'll just stick at it and hope for the best. Reading a book is a good idea but he has little patience lol x

I would just give him the diaper for now and put no pressure on him in order to make sure there are no negative associations. When enough time has passed that you know he has no negative associations with it anymore and/or you think he'll be receptive to it, I would try potty training for poop. I think putting as much responsibility in the kids hands (Being involved in clean-up, being in charge of changing one's self, et cetera) with it as possible can encourage potty training, but that strategy doesn't really work well with 2.5 year olds. It worked much better with Violet when she was closer to 3.
