I'm currently in hospital after my water broke last night. I'm currently 34+3 and they're observing me and giving steroid and antibiotics. I've got constant low back ache but labour hasn't started yet. My question is if labour doesn't start naturally what are the pros and cons of induction versus waiting it out at this stage in my pregnancy? Is it safer to induce because of infection risk or should I wait for natural labour? Will I have a choice or will I have to just do what the doctors say I should? Xx

After 2 days of PPROM my baby's heartrate got "sleepy" and her movements stopped, and that's when they decided.to induce me. I actually went into labour while they were getting the stuff to induce me... They will keep you closely monitored and only induce if there is risk to the baby. Half an hour before I went into labour the plan was for.them to send me home with antibiotics...

Yep I'm going home right now every with severe constant back ache. I've had back ache for 22 hours none stop but they're sending me home till Friday. I've cried and cried and cried I have no faith in this hospital anymore xx

I hope everything will be alright! I never trusted my hospital either :( did they give you antibiotics? At least you can get comfortable and have something to eat at home :)

My waters broke at 35+2. I was kept in overnight and sent home with antibiotics despite already starting to dilate and having really bad back ache. I went into labour naturally and had her two days later.

Your hospital are doing things right, until your in full blown labour home is the best place for you. You and your baby already have the antibodies for any bacteria at home but doesent for the bacteria in hospital making infection more likely the longer you stay

My waters broke at 32+4 with DS2. The doctor told me that if labour didn't start within 48 hours I could go home with antibiotics until I was 34 weeks and then come back to be induced. He said before 34 weeks, baby benefits from staying inside but that once you hit 34 weeks, it's actually better for baby to come out rather than risk infection.

In the end he came at 32+6 via EMCS due to decels when monitoring.

I had pprom in all 3 pregnancies and was induced at 36weeks with the first (as per guidelines in 2004) then 34 weeks with number2 (2012) and number 3 at 35weeks but she was a EMCS as breech. The risk of infection outweighs benefit of keeping baby in past 34 weeks I was told from my consultant although generally the antenatal care I received was shocking as I was not given antibiotics as the doc on call said the benefits weren't proven - I had to demand to see someone else!

Mine ruptured at various stages in all 3pregnancies starting as early as 21weeks in one so antibiotics were very important as they would be ruptured for so long before delivery.

My advice would be to attend the hospital if you feel at all unsure if the advice, request monitoring and to be seen by a consultant to reassess the situation x

At my hospital they don't induce you until 37 weeks.

They won't induce me at all until labour starts. Even letting me go till 40 if it hasn't happened by then which I'm a bit mortified by because I know the longer he goes with broken membranes the more he chance of infection increases. Although I've been having pains so doctor checked me. My cervix is slightly open and they can touch top of baby's head so where just waiting for cramps to increase to contractions I think xx
