Is making up bottles in advance really such a problem?

I make mine up as we go alone as per the guidelines, but at night this is just such a hassle. Everyone I speak to said when they had their babies they made them up for the day.

What do you do at night. To date I have a flask of water and make them up with that then cool, but if the flask has been made for a while it is not overly hot, so I think this is probably worse!

Anyone make bottles up for during the night?

We make up 3 before bed which do the middle of the night, early morning and mid morning. Then I make up a couple at a time during the day so we are always slightly ahead. We cool them in cold water before putting them in the fridge, at the top at the back. As long as they are used within 24 hours they are fine. The longest ours are kept for is 12 hours.

i premake all my bottles. They are all rapid cooled in water, then placed at the back of the fridge. All are used within 24hrs. Xxx

i do what the other 2 posters do for all bella's bottles too.
xx

I do this too! Have done since lo was 2 weeks old.

I personally think the boiling water, letting it cool then adding formula when required is a much more risky way of making bottles. It says on the tin to make them up with boiling water that has been left to stand for 30 mins.

The advice is so conflicting. No wonder us mummys are scared of getting it wrong!!

I put boiling water in the bottle for the amount I need before I go to bed and have one of those travel powder dispensers which I put the right amount into and I just grab the two when Dylan wakes up in the night, most of the time they water has gone to room temperature which he takes with no problem. I don't want to do the preparing in advance and leaving at room temperature for hours overnight so to me this is the next best thing

I prepare in advance too and leave them in the fridge until they're needed when I warm them up.

i make up the bottles put them in the fridge but add the formula before i warm it x

I do the same, put the bottles in the fridge, heat up the water and add the powder as and when needed :) I used to make them up when Amelia needed them but now I do it this way it's less stressful and there's less screaming.

I personally wouldn't use cold/room temperature water to put powder in because powder isn't sterile. I use cartons at night. So much easier.

I make them up fresh in the day but make 4 up early evening to take us through to the morning. I couldn't have a screaming baby for 30 mins at 2am!

I have always made Anna's bottles up fresh as needed.

A little trick......once you have tried this a few times you will find it really easy. It does take the time to boil a small amount of water in kettle, but thats it - so say 2 mins to make a fresh feed......

I have bottles all sterilised as usual. I have a bottle with cooled previously boiled water.

When I need a feed, I boil a small amount of water in kettle (takes 1 min)
If I need a 4oz feed I pour in 1 oz just boiled water straight from the kettle and add 4 scoops formula and stir. Then add 3oz from the cooled bottle water. Then you have a fresh feed at the perfect temperature in less than 2 mins.

Anna is 9 months old and I still make her feeds this way.
If you need a 6oz feed try 2oz just boiled water, add 6 scoops, stir, add another 4oz cooled and that should work....:flower:

i make mine up as we go - they are all sterilised in the morning, with formula dispensers in.

then i have a flask of hot water. pour in the 6oz, plop the formula in then he drinks it. its good for an hour, sometimes he will wait until its cooled to drink it though. x

I make the bottles up in advance and put them in the fridge, so when my daughter was still waking in the night for a feed which she hasn't done for about 2 months now, I used to just quickly heat it in the microwave, of course being very careful  x
