Just found out I'm pregnant so I've been on the hunt for a good quality prenatal supplement. I started taking Now brand prenatal with DHA from a health food store. These soft gels contain borage seed oil, 125mg. I know that GLA's are beneficial but I've been reading up on borage oil and it's dangers during pregnancy, ie, birth defects, uterine contractions, liver damage. Why would this oil be included in a prenatal supplement? Is it safe to continue using?

I was told not to take anything with borage oil in it. My fish oil had it, so had to switch. I can't exactly remember why though. I took it until I was 12 weeks pregnant until I saw you aren't supposed to take it during pregnancy.

I would take them back and tell them it is unsafe for pregnancy. They should be willing to give you a refund.

I would definitely avoid that brand. I'm shocked they would add borage oil to a prenatal. According to wikipedia, it's dangerous during pregnancy as it has a teratogenic effect and can cause premature labor.
