I feel like an idiot asking this, but as it seems a lot of pregnant women get UTI's and Ive never had one.....

I have the FREQUENT (omg, too frequent) urination, sometimes urgent need to go. Sometimes dont feel like I went all the way and sometimes am literally just back in bed when I have to get up and go again. No burning though...

Last night I was literally up 6 times.

Normal pregnancy stuff, right...? I dont drink any excess fluids close to bedtime, just take my prenatal with a sip of water.

Being that you've never had one before, it's hard to say. I have had them before, but not since being pregnant. I've never had burning before. The only way I can tell the difference is sometimes sitting or standing makes it go away, and that I always go a little bit when I feel the need. When I've had UTIs in the past, I would sit down and nothing would come out and the feeling literally never went away. I usually get at least 10 minutes of relief after peering now :)

I'd go get checked for a UTI just incase. I don't get any symptoms with my UTI's, and they seem to progress directly to my kidney. None of the burning of discomfort, frequent peeing but I can never tell the difference.
The doctors are cracking at UTI fixing, I go every few weeks, armed with a pee bottle ready for my dip! Takes two jiffs, I spend longer in the chemist after waiting for antibiotics haha.

I had this exact same thought the other day. I only once had a UTI and it really hurt and I had stomach pains. Now I just get up 6 times a night to urinate but no burning. It also takes a while for me to get a steady stream going.

I would always err on the side of caution with them and get a quick check done by the doctor. Haven't had one since getting pregnant (knock on wood!), but have had them several times over the years, and like a pp, some of the time, they progressed really fast and affected my kidneys. Sometimes my only symptom would be a mild discomfort and, like, a trickle of pee when I really felt like I had to go...and then a short time later, I'd have blood in my urine and be in pain. Treating earlier is always better, but especially if you're pregnant. When I've allowed symptoms to progress because I thought maybe I wasn't getting one, it took longer to cure and stronger meds (a lot of which need to be avoided during pregnancy). And because you're pregnant, if you think you have one, you might ask for a urine culture rather than just the simple urine test. Some doctors will do that instead of fiddling around with trying different medications to get rid of it, because the culture can actually identify the type of bacteria causing the UTI and use a medication that will be most effective for that specific type. Good luck...and I hope you don't actually have one :hugs:

I work in an health clinic, Usually UTIs are associated with burning and pain, and not being able to completely empty your bladder, also urine is dark cloudy and has a very strong ammonia smell.

Thanks for all the great information ladies! I have an appt coming up, will be sure to mention it while I am in !
