So I've asked my OBGYN if I need to take prenatals with orange juice and he said that I could if wanted to but didn't have to. Well I beg to differ. I've read that iron is very hard to absorb and it needs a booster such as vitamin C. I've also read that calcium in dairy, especially milk, can hinder the absorption of iron. So my question is.... do I take prenatals WITH or WITHOUT orange juice? Please comment your story.

I always take mine with orange juice.
Still TTC #1 - but I don't think I am ovulating.

I do this because it is yummier and feels less like I -have- to do it.

Just wanted to reply - anyone else?

I've heard that before as well, I'm sure it helps, just not sure to what degree.

My GP told me to take my iron supplements with orange juice. I never thought to ask with prenatals.

You certainly don't have to but it may help to take it with a small amount of OJ. I am guessing the vitamin C in a prenatal is sufficient to enhance the absorption of minerals. Your absolutely right about the dairy. Don't take mineral sups with meals that contain dairy. The calcium binds to the mineral and you get neither. The low amount of calcium in prenatal shouldn't hinder it.

I need extra iron so I take my prenantals plus an iron pill. My iron pill actually has Vitamin C in it.

I think that there are also many forms of iron some of which are more easily absorbed and usable by the body so you can look into that as well
