Hi ladies.. I have a problem with prenatal vitamins.. I hate taking them! If I take them in the morning, I get nauseous.. sometimes I even throw up. So, to stop that, I started taking them before I went to bed.. no trace of nausea, but they give me energy/insomnia.. keep me up for 4 or 5 hours longer than usual. Does this happen to anyone else??

I know I should be taking prenatals every day.. but I tend to slack off during AF.. and start back up again around 1-2 days before OV, and until AF comes.

I have a terrible time trying to remember to take them any time mid-day, too.

Do prenatals have the right amount of folic acid in them? Or do I need to take an additional supplement? And where to get it?

Thanks for any advice!

Hi
I take prenatals everyday but don't suffer from the side effects you mentioned. Do you take them with food? That's what mine advise. The RDA of folica acid is 400 units daily. Most suppliments designed for mums to be have this or more in them.
Hope this helps, good luck!

Vitamins have always made me feel nauseous for some reason.. never could take a multivitamin. I'll try to take it with food more consistently, to see if it helps. Thanks!

I've been taking Twinlab's Prenatal and I get nauseous in the morning only every once in a while. After some time, I figured out which foods it doesn't really go with.

What I've been told is that they should pretty much always been taken with food. It's okay to switch to folic acid only, too, especially if your diet is high quality. Folic should be 800 whichever units are used (I'm so bad with those...).

I take the gummy kind and they do not upset my stomach at all!! The pill kind give me stabbing pains in my stomach. Give the gummies a try. They are REALLY yummy too.

I also feel terrible taking them but then again I always have felt a bit nauseous in the mornings. I changed to taking them before bed but they don't make me lose sleep. I would definitely try taking them with some sort of food in your stomach. Maybe that will help. Have you tried switching brands. Some are a little more gentle on the stomach than others.

I've seen these too and was really tempted to try them!

The only thing holding me back was what they tasted like. Didn't want to buy the huge container if the taste was going to be off putting.

I have problems taking prenatals too. I got such bad bloating and pain in my lower abdomen from them that I went to the doctor to see if I had a uti. I didn't, but shortly after that I stopped taking them and the pain went away. My body has never agreed with vitamins.

You could also try cutting them in half and taking one in the morning and one in the evening.

I got the Vitafusion brand and they are DELICIOUS!! I want to eat more in a day than I am supposed to. LOL

Hello! i actually just started taking prenatal vitamins almost a week ago. I am taking the walgreens brand. i've read good reviews on it, and so far so good for me. and it does advise to take with food.

I had that problem with the Rainbow Light Prenates. I would have the worst tummy ache and then my heart would pound, I had too much energy and couldn't sleep. I returned them bc I hated the way I felt on them - no matter what time of the day I took them. I feel weird.

I now take the Belly Bar Prenates for 5 months now. They are chewable but not a gummy - they are like a wafer Flintstone. They taste like a Flintstone too but are Prenatals. I can only find them at Walgreens. No weird feelings or insomnia.

FYI - The gummy's have no Iron in them which is very important so you would have to take an Iron Supplement along with them.
