My c-section is scheduled for this Tuesday.

Warning: Bowel movement talk!

At my last Doctors appt I told her I was having some issues with bowel movements. Not exactly constipated just they are uncomfortable and take some effort but I do go daily. She said you need to start taking stool softeners because if I'm having issues now after the surgery it will be extremely painful.

Here's my concern she and a nurse told me to stay away from laxatives but the stool softeners are not doing anything for me. Like I said I go daily but it just requires a lot of effort and they are uncomfortable. I know if I am experiencing that now, I can't imagine the pain I will experience afterwards. I don't know what else to do.

As if I wasn't really nervous and scared already.

I wouldn't worry too much, I was constipated for around 4 days before my section. After the section I had some prune juice and went a day after, it felt strange but I didn't feel any discomfort or strain.

In hospital they gave me a bog bottle of some sort of laxative/stool softener which really did help. It wasn't difficult to go though when I needed to go, I needed to go right that very second.

I don't know if this is available where you are but I have a big yellow tin of AGIOLAX granules which is OK to take in pregnancy/postpartum. It helps and is all natural.

Good luck. Try not to worry too much, all this stuff will melt like snow under the sun when you have your little baby in your arms.

I too have had constipation and hard stools, what really helps me a lot is making myself a fruit smoothie with flax seed. I have a great bm in less than 20 minutes.

the hospital i am going to gives your a small bottle of what they cal "TNT' that you place inside the morning of the section and it clears you out before surgery.

I didn't have TNT, but they did give me regular doses of Colace with my painkillers after the surgery. I had my daughter on a Tuesday, and I pooped on Friday night, the day that I came home. It wasn't terribly bad, but I do recommend that if you're worried now, to take a small bag of pitted prunes up there with you, or some prune juice. If you're planning on BFing, you're also going to be parched all of the time, and drinking more water than ever before...or at least I did! The extra water will also help to get things going after your C-section.

My first poop wasn't horribly painful, btw. It wasn't glorious, but I would hardly call it "painful" or agonizing. I didn't have an easy recovery from my C-section by any means, but the poop thing was not as bad as I anticipated.
