Ok I need some questions answering. I went into preterm labour yesterday as mentioned in my other post.

I had a doctor check my cervix to tell me I'm 3cm dilated, she checked twice with a speculum and once with her fingers and confirmed 2-3cm but more 3cm.

I went down to labour ward as pains were intense. Got me prep for labour. I was on gas n air for 2 hours. Did ultrasound and confirmed it was all go. As baby head was down and things were progressing quickly.

Doctor checked my cervix again definitely 3cm but waters pressing down. Checked with speculum 3 times and fingers twice. Yep definitely 3cm. I had an urge to push doctor told me not to as I was still 3cm and it was the waters that were protruding.

Then it fades off. I was moved back to antenatal clinic where things slowly slowed down. However 6pm that night after having paracetamol codeine tramadol pains got intense for 2 hours. A new arrogant doctor came up. Took a quick peak at my cervix and said it was long and thin and none labouring.

Doctor advised to write me up stronger pain relief. I got so fed up at this point as I have been in and put of hospital for 7 weeks. I'm 29 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I discharged myself cos I was sleep deprived. He had no issue and told me to go home.

Previous history in last 72hoyrs.

2 positive FFN
Positive contractions on CTG
Mucusy discharge
3cm dilated.

My question is.

Could the first doctor be wrong abouty dilation? A midwife checked my cervix at same time and confirmed 3cm.

Could my cervix spontaneously close?

Do you think the last doctor was wrong?

Is it true you can detrimn the length of the cervix without ultrasound. Ie long or short.

Has any of you gone through this.

Hi hon, I'm not certain, but I think your cervix can close up again, but what is more likely is that they don't know what's haopening with out an ultrasound.did they do an abdominal one to see if you're funnelling? I'd not be happy with all the manual checks at 29 weeks, they shouldn't be poking you so much. Do you have steroids on board?
keep drinking lots of water and rest up.
On one born this week a midwife thought someone was 8-10cm and was only 3, so clearly not that easy to know!
Good luck

Hi, I went into early labout at 29 weeks and they were sure all was to go. Made me get my husband down as he was 6 hours away and baby would be here by morning. I was 2-3 cm dilated. I was given steroids, Have you had these? They are very important if baby does make an early appearance. I Did not eventually give birth till 37 weeks i just stayed at 2-3 cm dilated x
