Will I be given the option of another or encouraged to VBAC? I've had a previous natural before section and section was only due to twins being breech.

In my area they are pro vbac (which is what I had) but if you want a section you can usually get one.

Thanks, I'm pro VBAC but the MW kept saying I can't do this or that, have to have continuous monitoring etc and feel if it's going to be so rigid I'd rather a section.

Plus I'd like to be sterilised, this will be my 4th child and they wouldn't sterilise we before (we were not decided if we wanted more), we always wanted 4 but 4 is enough.

So do you actually get asked? Do they ask your preference or do they assume VBAC unless you state otherwise?

I'm in Canada so things are different here but I've been wondering the same thing. All of our literature says that VBAC is the way to go but I have dome some research and VBAC rates are very low. Something like 34% or thereabouts. I don't really have strong feelings one way or the other, to be honest, but I am insanely curious. My first OB appointment is in November and that will probably be one of the first things I'll ask about.

This is likely to be our last so I guess I don't care if I get another section. I wouldn't get my tubes tied though because I'm paranoid about SIDS (yes, I'm morbid) and in that situation I would want to try again.

Yes I wish I had more idea about the risks etc, rates for hospital etc. i had never considered what I would do in the case of Sid, just know my options are short with contraception and each pregnancy or contraceptive destroys my hearing.

In the UK the success rate for vbac is about 70% which only just a little less than chance for a first time Mum to have a vaginal birth.

Yes my midwife asked me what I wanted this time. I was so keen for a vbac as I really wanted to do it myself this time. I can't quite explain just how much I meant to me so she just took that And said yes no problem and I was a good candidate. I did see a consultant around 20 weeks but it was just following policies as he looked at my notes, said I had a good chance, told me a little about risks and signed me back to midwives.
