Private journals/groups?

I've been on forums using this same platform in the past and they were able to make certain threads private if the thread starter wished.

I was wondering if that could be included as an option, just for journals and maybe groups (like pregnancy groups)?

It would leave the main parts of the forum (which are of more general interest) open to search engines but allow a little extra privacy for the ladies who have personal stuff to discuss... especially given the new influx of traffic that may come from being linked to Momtastic.

I don't think it would hurt inbound links, as when I'm searching for something specific using the "site:babyanbump.com" designation on Google, I find that it never ends up taking me to groups or journals, but always to the higher-profile forums.

Something to think about that might help people feel a little more secure about the big changes going on!

Journals are already unviewable to anyone who is not signed in.

I'm not sure it'd be feasible to make them private to members though (except I assume those you want reading them?)

Yes, at the forum I used to belong to, when you started a thread (only in the journals or writing groups section), you had the option to make it private as you were starting it (or I think admin could change it for you after the fact one way or the other). Then you could add individual users by username.

I wish I knew anything technical about the feature, but this was probably 5 years ago and it worked really well, so it must be out there somewhere, LOL.

I like the openness in general of BnB (that's how I found it!) but I can see where a little bit of privacy would be nice in some contexts.

I know you're probably overwhelmed right now, just thought I'd mention it while it was fresh in my mind.

As Vickie said groups an journals will not show on Google because they are hidden from guests.

I do think there is an option out there so just your profile buddies can view certain threads but I'm not a very tech person and its 1.10am However with the current situation of the new template taking on feedback and ironing out some starting points I would appreciate if you posed this suggestion to me again in the future, I can't promise anything but it can be reconsidered.
