I forgot to ask them, do u no if they have private rooms and how much they are? id love my own room while having a c-section, plus im thinking of when my 4 year old comes to visit, hes a hyperactive lil boy and would be running up and down the wards

xXx

I would imagine so.....I am having a private room when I go in on Friday this week...and without any charge!!!

I have two children, a girl aged 5 and a boy aged seven who also happens to be autistic, globally mentally delayed and is prone to going a bit 'off on one' in stressful situations....my social situation dictates my need as my son will probably be very noisy and also want to see what anybody else has to eat or drink and then would mindsweep it!!!:haha: Also we want to minimise the confusion of me not being a home with him and the arrival of the new baby of which he has no comprehension right now...also OH will be caring for the children so we have no other way to get around the fact that the children will be coming in for longish periods of the day.

They only apparentely allocate rooms on the basis once you have given birth that one is available, you can't normally pre-book them (not in my hospital at least!) as sometimes they need to be given to mothers with serious postnatal issues or anxiety issues....Last time I was in having my daughter, I requested one after her birth and packed all my stuff and waited and waited.....and they finally told me it was not possible as another lady on the ward was having hysterics over her husband not being allowed to stay for the nights she was in after the birth to help her with the baby as she was struggling after an assisted ventouse delivery....never mind me and my c-section....but this time I got wise and asked very early on!!!

The rate is £40 per day I think!

Hi
They do have private rooms i had one when i was in last time because of having dd premature, maybe ask when you have your next appointment how much they will cost you will be in at least 4 days tho with c-section so might work out expensive. xx

I know when I lived in the UK I had a C Section with my 1st and for the first 24 hours you have to stay on a ward, so they can keep any eye on you. I had previously harrassed the nurses to ensure that if a private room was available it had my name on it.

So spent the first night on the ward then in the morning a nurse said "a private room is available if you want it"...........well despite having the C Section I somehow managed to jump of the bed, get my son and was at the room before the nurse picked up my bag!

Having a private room was the best thing ever..............all my visitors were allowed to stay until way pass visiting hours leaving around 10.30-11pm.

I lived in London at the time and paid £30 per night (was allowed home 3 days later). The hospital invoiced me a few weeks later for £70.00:happydance:

Now living in Canada I am doing the same thing again!

All four of the hospitals I have had my children at have private rooms but prices varied the cheapest was £45 for a night and the most expensive was £80 (am in London though).

Like someone else said it also depends on availability. I had one from hours after my c-section until I left three nights later for free as it was a very emotional time for me, new baby in the same week my daughter was born sleeping just a year earlier.

Thankyou for the replies ladies, i have another detailed scan with the fetal medicine dr next monday so i will ask then...we dont mind moneywise,we have time to save, i just think a nice room to myself would be great, especially when i have visitors and my son coming...plus the last time i had a c-section i had to share a toilet with a heroine addict! poor baby had to go and be weaned as he was adicted also :(...and she had the nerve to come and try and hold my baby!...dont want that happening again!

:hugs:

Yes hun i will let u no :)

Just to add that the last time i had c-section it was at sandwell hospital not birminghams womens, i got reccomended this hospital :D

I had a c-section with my DD and luckily at my last hospital all of the rooms on the maternity unit were private. I couldn't imagine having to share a room going through a c-section recovery. You need sooo much more rest which is hard to do with another person in your room and another baby that's not yours. And then you have to deal with the other person's visitors as well as yours. Plus I was in so much pain that I was crying a lot and honestly I was complaining a lot, which some stranger wouldn't want to listen too, and I had to stay for 5 days. So push for a private room if you can!
