Me and my husband have booked an appointment for a general consultation at a private fertility clinic. I have pcos and underactive thyroid and am lucky if i get 3 periods per year. My husband has given a sperm sample and it all came back clear. My doctor has placed us on the nhs waiting list to a fertility clinic and he thinks we will potentially receive clomid/injection treatment to regulate my cycles. My question is how much roughly should i expect to pay for this privately? We want to prepare ourselves for the worst and wonder if theres anyone out there in the uk particularly scotland paying for similar treatment privately?

Hi, I hope you don't mind me posting here. I am 12 weeks pregnant, but was trying for a long while so still feel very close to this part of bnb.
I had my initial nhs consultation after trying for 14 months and was told I needed a laparoscopy, hysroscopy and due test but the wait on the nhs was 44 weeks. My hubbys sperm was also perfect.
We decided to go privately to avoid this long wait. The same consultant did private work and we saw him the next week in a local small private hospital run by a company called BMI. We had the operation and fell pregnant the next month.
The consultation, operation, and follow up appointment where I was prescribed chlomid came to a total of £2950. However I am lucky enough to have private medical insurance through work, and as the consultant suspected enditromitis they paid for this all for me.
For us it was such a relief and if we did not have insurance we would have scrimped to find the money. I would be still on the waiting list for the operation if we had stayed on the nhs.
I hope this message came across in the right way, and I really hope you get your bfp soon.
Lots of love xxx

Thanks for your reply, I hope all is going well with your pregnancy so far. We have booked an appointment to see a private consultant so fingers crossed. I'm wondering I were to pay for some of my treatment privately eg an hsg, it will speed the whole process up abit with the NHS. I'll just have to wait and see. I wish you all the best :)

can i just ask ladies where about in the country are you as i know waiting times vary depending on where you live

I live in scotland, my initial nhs consultation is around dec time. I dont know what happens from there, im assuming we get added to a waiting list for each treatment/procedure required. My gp said its likely they'll want to check for blockages in my tubes, im wondering if even I were to pay for an hsg privately it'll speed things up with nhs.

Hi, I'm Oxfordshire. For some reason waiting lists here are not good right now. I need a cervical stitch by week 16, I'm week 12 now and not even had a letter yet alone a appointment. So frustrating!

Sorry, yes it will speed up the nhs process. After my op and my follow up I was prescribed clomid, then he set my next appointment with him back under the nhs, so effectively I just cut down the waiting list.
All the very best of luck xxx

Be careful about going private. In our PCT, once you've gone private they won't treat you again for fertility!!!

CHECK very carefully all the guidelines. We're saving money to go private as we can't get any help (OH has children from a previous marriage).
