Hello to all,

I have prolactinoma (6mm) and I am taking dostinex (0.5mg a week).
I recently discovered that I am 4 weeks pregnant after 3 years trying :).
My gynecologist insisted to stop taking dostinex, which I did, and wants me to take no medicine for prolactine, during my pregnancy.
But my endocrinologist wants me to take bromocriptine or bromergon because he is afraid my adenoma will grow up without any medicine or I can lose my baby due to high prolactin level.
Now I have a dilemma what to do? I don`t take dostinex for a week now and I start feeling a little headache (which I had with dostinex too), also I noticed yellow changes on my nipples and pain in the breasts.

Firstly, congrats on your pregnancy after 3 years of trying :) :)
This must be a very difficult decision to make ((hugs)) to you
You could try asking this question on one of the pregnancy boards as they might have some more info for you
Sorry i'm not much help - didn't want to read and run
Best wishes
Love SB xxx

Hi hun, I am currently taking bromocriptine for my high prolactin (I don't have prolactinoma but idiopathic hyperprolactinemia) and my consultant told me that as soon as I find out I am pregnant I have to stop the bromocriptine and contact them strange away. That was an endocrinologist consultant too.

I am not sure what you should do but maybe speak with your GP but I thought bromo and dostinex were the same thing. Although, endros should really know best.

Hi Vesna

I think the problem is that there have not been sufficient studies done on the effects on the foetus with dostinex, however, there are many documented studies on pregnancy and bromocriptine.
Therefore only bromocriptine is considered safe to use whilst pregnant and has resulted in no foetal abnormalities that can be attributed to this particular drug.
All specialists will err on the side of caution for fear of litigation and from my own knowledge, dostinex is not advised once pregnancy is achieved.

6mm is a relatively small prolactinoma. What pathological symptoms do you have? Galactorrhea? Headaches? Absent menstrual cycles?
In pregnancy your prolactin should rise anyhow, so aslong as your GP monitors your levels, you should be fine. If they do rise considerably and cause intolerable symptoms, then you could be prescribed bromocriptine, but only if you actually need it rather than as a precautionary med.
Hope that helps a bit?!
Congrats and Good Luck!!!:happydance:
