Prostin gel experiences??

Ladies, been offered induction at 40+13 days (in 4 days), which would start with prostin gel, then move on to an oxytocin drip if prostin gel does not work. No clinical reason, just routine due to number of days overdue. Needless to say, I'm totally distraught as baby is fine and healthy and so am I. What are your experiences with prostin gel? Did it work at all? I have a phobia from drips, so worried, if I have to move on to the oxytocin, the adrenalin will make the whole procedure useless and make further intervention more likely... Thanks in advance!

I had the postin pessary ( guessing the same as the gel). Had one lot which dialated me to 2cm and they wanted to break my waters but I had to wait over 12 hours for a bed on labour Ward ( crazy baby boom in 2010 ). While I was waiting my contractions began and by the time they gave me a room I was contracting every 5 minutes and was 3cm. Broke my waters and bam contractions went to 3 minutes and I never required the drip . I was exactly 40 week's being induced due to obstetric cholestasis

I had the pessarys too, however I had to have 3 before I was dialated to 2cm, and my hind waters broke but fore waters never so they were broken in the labour ward and I was started on a pitocin drip. I can honestly say my labour was a great experience, my baby was born 3.5hrs after my waters breaking and only took 2 pushes. Obviously everyone experiences are different, but mine was very positive and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!!

Also, I was 37+3 when induction began so my body probably wasn't quite ready which could be why I needed 3 pessarys and pitocin. But I had placental abruption and my baby had to come out.

I was induced at 40 wks (due to PE) with gels and was also told I would need the drip if 2 lots of gels didn't work. The gels went in about 8pm and I was monitored for about 20 mins. Started getting little tightenings pretty quickly and was 3cm by 1am, had some pethadine (to try to sleep and get some rest), then was 10cm by 5am. DS1 was born just after 6am Over all it was a pretty good birth considering I had been induced. I was very worried before the induction as I had read so much about interventions leading to c-sections etc but was pretty lucky as it all went well.

Glad there are so many positive stories. Mine wasn't so great. I went in at 40+10 and had the pessary. Within 20 minutes I had burning type pains. It was also noted that Baby was reacting quite badly to the pessary as Hr dropping to 60-70 at times. It was stopped after 30 minutes and I was told I was hypersensitive to it. Eventually baby Hr stabilised and 36 hrs later I was given the pitocin drip and water broken but but bubs couldn't tolerate drip either so ended with cs. 4 other ladies induced at the same time as me ended up with cs. I have read so many great induction stories so don't want to worry you just saying the risk of hypersentivity is rare but it can happen.

I had a different pessary first.... one that works over 24 hours.. never did catch the name of it but it did nothing (for me!)

Then a few days later they gave me the prostoglandin pessary which they told me works over 6 hours. Exactly 6 hours later my contractions started. They were instantly very close together and intense. 3.5 hours later baby was born
