Well for last few weeks my inlaws have been obessed with when I'm going to give my 16 week old solids and formula. I keep saying there is no hurry it's recommended around 26 weeks not before 17 weeks the response is usually he can't be getting enough with just breastmilk poor child! Well he has just put on a pound in a week so proud and not ashamed to admit I cant wait to say I told you so.

You should ask them why they think humans are unable to sustain their young with only breastmilk if every single other mammal on the planet is able to successfully feed their young only breastmilk. Are we as humans that evolutionarily inferior to other mammals?? This is such a ridiculous statement, breastmilk is made specifically to provide all the nutrition your growing baby needs. We may give Isla some solids starting at 6 months if she is interested, but if she isn't interested then she will continue to get exclusively breastmilk until she decides she is ready to try other foods.

I know my MIL and SIL have never known anyone to breastfeed so it's all new to them but my MIL actually said seeing me do it she regrets never trying it. On the other hand I was breastfeed to 10 months and all my aunts and cousins have do it or at least tried it but I live 4 hours away from my family. I just don't get the obsession with feeding . I will introduce gluten at 6 months but we are doing well now so Ill go by what DS wants.

The comments are so annoying, aren't they! I had the same from certain family members about my daughter. She did great on just breastmilk and was piling on the weight until around four months old. Everyone was trying to get me to give her solids early, saying that she was desperate for them. She certainly wasn't, and even when we did start solids, she didn't want to actually eat anything until she was 9 months old.
A lot of it is just ignorance about breastfeeding but you will prove them wrong. Sounds like your baby is doing just great :flower:

I had all this from my MIL as well. I think all she really wanted to do was be able to feed baby herself and to teach me how to do things, she'd never breastfed so couldn't tell me how to it and I think that's what she hated. She was so quick to tell me how I should blend up Sunday dinners and put them in a bottle for him at 6 weeks old 😷 "just use a knife and poke a bigger hope in the teat!"

I had all of the "that baby will be starved if you don't wean him until 6 months old" from all ends of the family as well.

Ah sure we should just give them steak dinners in the delivery suite

Haha. My LO actually lay in his cot by my bedside in the delivery suite watching me eat a beef casserole a few hours after he was born. He was so wide eyed, I'm convinced he wanted some :haha:
