Hi! I am brand new to the forum, sorry for any noob behavior. :dohh:

I'm 27 years old and my husband and I have been TTC since August. I have PCOS and irregular periods. I just had my first real natural period in over a year last month, which was a shock!

My OBGYN told me I needed to lose 20 pounds in hopes of getting my periods back and to start ovulating again. I've lost 5 in a week and a half and have been eating well (weight watchers), exercising more and doing yoga.

I started taking the Clear Blue ovulation tests and this morning I got my first smiley face! So I am happy. For now. lol

I've been prescribed Provera and was told to use that every month to make a period come on. When would I use that in my cycle? I use the Ovia app and my "fertile window" technically closed yesterday, but has been readjusted with my Clear Blue test data and it now closes tomorrow. I'm going to continue taking the ovulation tests for a couple more days just to keep track/make sure. My period is predicted to start on the 19th. When should I take the provera? Should I see if my period comes back again this month naturally? Or go for the provera? The app tells me that in 13 days I should take a PG test.

Thanks for reading, and sorry if I repeated any questions. I'm going to dig through all the old posts now.

If you have PCOS, you really need to be on some sort of medication to help! I am on metformin and I do ovulate on my own with it (although not at regular times which is why I am on femara now, just to help with timing better). Especially if you are actively TTC because you'll be TTC forever without some sort of help.

For me, OPKS are not accurate. I will get 3-4 positives a month. So, I can not rely on them anymore and just rely on temping instead. I wouldn't really trust those period apps to tell you your fertile window or when AF is due either (unless you are charting). Because they make the predictions either off of your previous periods (which mean nothing when you have PCOS) or off of the old wives tale that every woman has a 28 day cycle and ovulates on CD14.

I would very much suggest that you go and see a Reproductive Endocrinologist or just a different OBGYN. REs are better though and they specialize in fertility and fertility issues and will be best suited to help you out.

As far as when to take provera, if you think you are ovulating currently, then there is no reason to take it as AF will come naturally if you aren't pregnant. Otherwise, if you dont see AF in 2-3 weeks then I would test for pregnancy and if negative, take the provera. But really, taking provera every month will only give you periods, it will not help you ovulate. Only treating the PCOS or taking ovulation meds will help with ovulation every month.

Hi,

Hope you dont mind me butting in, but as a PCOS suffer I know a little about it. You really cant confirm ovulation positives with OPKs, I had to do it with bloods and scans. My OB told me to use provera after 40 days since my last period if a bfn.

I too was on metformin for about 5 months, trick is to delete all sugar from your diet even fruit, lots of exercise and minimum carbs, in 4 months I lost 38lbs and got my bfp and was pregnant with twins. Its hard work but its possible!

All the best, I hope you get your bfp soon!

My OBGYN gave me the option of trying to lose weight or go with medications. She seemed pretty convinced if I lost 20 pounds I would get my cycle back so I decided to go for that. I'm not very overweight (20 pounds will just about do it for me) so I decided to try that first. She also told me to call my insurance and see what they cover for infertility, so I will try that and see what I can get for medications.

I have been temping as well, and the positive test was accurate? with my temping. It's the first and only positive I have received, I didn't get a smiley face today. I also had cramping and each ovary was individually hurting as well. So.. I hope I was ovulating! I will look into a reproductive endocrinologist for sure.

That is good advice about the provera, thank you. Thank you for your thorough response! :flower:

Sounds like the diet you were on is very similar to the diet I am on! Glad to hear that worked for you :) I hope so too, thank you again!
