does anyone have any experience/knowledge?

A close friend had a psychotic episode yesterday (she was with me :nope:) and has been now seen by mental health professionals at A&E. She's been only given Tamazepan. She seems to be better, as in calmer and less paranoid, her partner seems to think talking through it has helped her, but I am concerned she could relapse if she is not given anti-psychotics? Can an episode 'resolve' on its own?

any help is appreciated!
thanks

she should go to her gp thought she would have been told that to be honest as she should be monitored make sure it is working ok the meds , after all she might need counselling or to see sepecialist depending on what the cause was. if I was you I would ask your friend to go to the docs and go with her. im speaking from experience of being on the sames meds previously x

I have psychotic depression and suffer from psychosis ( i hear voices and see hallucination and smell things that aren't really there) and in all honestly I agree with ^^ she should go and see her GP, mine come and go even though I am on meds. But just because she has had one episode ( and it seems fairly short as you were with her ) dosnt nescerry mean she will have another. Take acre and well done for helping her my DH says my psychotic episodes are scary and I am not me at all so hope you are ok too my lovely?

xxxx

many thanks for the replies!

she's now been seen by the crisis team at home. they have said that they have to consult with the psychiatrist to see what's the right medication and they will keep visiting to get her monitored for the first few days.
That sounds better to me - I was concerned they would nothing else apart from the tamazepan.

I really do not know how long this has been going on in her mind, maybe for quite a while? She 'exploded' on Monday as she couldn't hide it anymore. I am glad she reached out to me as I quickly realized what was going on and managed to somehow help her until her OH arrived.

to be honest, I'm still fairly shaken...it was very scary. she was in a really bad state, going through paranoid delusions etc etc :nope:

Glad she is with the crisis team they should have there own psychiatrists who can prescribe her other meds and give advise on other treatments.

I am so sorry you are shaken hun, but totally understand why. you did so well to help her hun. HUGS xxx

just talked to her OH - he says that he now thinks that her delusions have been going on for a year!

Oh hun did think when you said she just had an episode when she was with you yesterday was a v short episode mine can last from 2 week ( my last was 12 week + ) poor girl I really hope she lets the mental health team help her it can be so hard when you don't know you are poorly-which I didn't when I was first diagnosed.

keep us posted on how she is hun? take care

Hugs xxx

thanks topsy

I really don't know - Monday was obviously a breaking point when she let it all out with me. The way she talked made me think it had been going on for a while, but I never imagined a year?! It can't be true... :nope:

Hope you don't mind me asking, how is it to live with psychosis?

xxxx

Well to start with hun you sound like a really good friend to her so thats going to help a lot.

i have a dieting journal and write in there when I hear voices, see, smell things if you want to see what my life has been like.

I have been hospitalized 3 times since oct 2012 with varying from 5-10 week stays.

they had to play around with my meds a lot to get me the right cocktail to help, which took a while. which is frustrating.

I need a lot of help to look after my LO ( but also have sever PND as well ) and am not allowed to drive and haven't driven since sep 2012 but hope if this stable period continues to be able to drive in summer this year :) yay

I think some of it depends on if she knows how ill she is when i was first ill even though I was really ill i didn't know i was really ill and didn't know the thinks i thought, saw and smelt and was thinking werent normal, but now i have a bit of insight into it and know when i hear voices its not normal, BUT that's not to say I always will.

Hope that makes some sense and helps hun. xxxx

thanks for telling me about your case. it must be very difficult, you sound brave :hugs:

I think my friend had PND with her second baby too.
I've been told she is calmer now and has been given new/proper meds so hopefully that'll help.
She's texted me just now and said that the other day was very frightening and that she is not sure whether it is all in her mind or it is true.

Thanks hun, its just part of how my life is unfortunately at the mo, but I have been more stable now than I have been in the last 2 years.

I really hope the meds help sometimes it can take a while to get them into your system.

Aw bless her heart, I feel like that sometimes-not sure if its true or like a dream, its hard to explain.

Hope she continues to respond to meds hun.
