I've still not BFd in public, I find the idea of it horrendous if I'm honest. At the moment I take a bottle or two of EBM with me but I would love tips for discreet feeding.

Do you wear normal clothes or breast feeding tops?

I can easily cover up once he's latched on but how do you get the latch on bit done without flashing every one? or d you just flash and dont care?

I'm after an idiots guide to feeding in public!

Sorry for being so thick!!

ive only done it the once, i found a quiet corner in a cafe. unclipped my bra under my top, positioned baby with blanket covering all except his head, then lifted up my top. think Thomas knew i was a bit anxious as he was very discrete.

I am the same Lyndsey. I usally pop into othercare as they have a nursing room but when I went in the other day it was rammed full so resorted to giving Ellis a bottle:baby: I have everything to hand but just need to pluck up the courage so will keep an eye on this thread for tips!

I started off buying a few tops that buttoned down (like shirts and T shirts with poppers) but then realiied I was exposing more of my top half doing it that way, so I used to just always wear a thin vest top under whatever I was wearing. That way I could lift my top up without exposing all my tummy, but still fit Poppy under the top I was wearing so no-one could see anything. Worked a treat.

I wore nursing tops and nursing bras so it made it easier. as for staying covered, it was kind of hard at first since he was young and still learning as well but you can buy nursing shawls/covers that go around your neck so they won't fall but there is enough slack that you can look down the top to get them latched but no one else would be able to see.

I'm off to Matalan for cheap vest tops
Thanks girls

Brilliant, I tried at home with a normal blanket and it was near on impossible for it to stay covering you whilst also allowing you to see what you are doing and hold baby and boob at the same time.

Off to google......
thanks

NP, they also sell just clips so you can use those with any blanket and it does the same thing.

also remember that most people are not paying any attention to what you are doing, they will usually just think the baby is sleeping.

I always wear a tanktop under my shirt so I can pull one up and one down.

Find a quiet public place, that isnt busy and try there. That is what I did for my first public feeding, and once I gained confidence I could then feed any where any time. It just takes a bit of practice.

Still waiting for baby to arrive and have not breast fed before but have asked my friend to come to costa with me the first time I do it in public, so hopefully that'll help. Cos its summer i've been sorting out strappy vest tops to pull down and shirts so I can still keep a bit covered by the shirt. My mum said that would work.

Dress in layers and bump/belly bands are great as you can lift a normal top without exposing any skin! :D

I wear the little vest top under neath again. I always find nursing tops annoying as they are always maternity tops. Who nurses when you are pregnant???

I do this too.

Just take a scarf or pashmina (a bit less obvious than a muslin) so u can get baby latched without flashing everyone!! Good luck hun u will do it without even thinking soon!!

I wear a poncho thingy to feed him so i can keep wearing my normal tops. Its too hot to layer atm.
You cant see the whole thing with this pic, but you see what it covers and its a stylish one, not a boring poncho.

I always wear a nursing bra an a low cut top or dress wen out but to be honest i dont really have much shame so i feed anywhere, i did it in the middle of a shipping centre recently. have you tried buying a sling? you can use one of these in public an no one would even know. try the Kari Me or Freedom Slings xx

I wear a nursing tank under my regular shirt so that my back stays covered.

Then I can either use a nursing apron or a ring sling to help keep everything discreet. Took some practice, but I did that at home with no pressure. Now I just head out and know I have enough milk no matter how long I stay out :)

Well I dont really hav any extra tips, I sometimes do the tank top underneath thing, but its been really hot recently so I haven't. But mainly I dont care who see's, I just latch him on then pull tshirt down to his nose and thats that, its werid cos I always thought i'd care more than I do. The only time im slightly more discreet is with the inlaws. xxxx
