i have a few questions!
im nearly 27 weeks pregnant, with seriously leaky boobs sometimes they even squirt (tmi sorry?) they feel full and uncomfy (not to the point of engogement tho) am i doing myself damage if i pump and freeze the milk?

by damage i mean will i mess up my supply for when its time to feed my baby?

also im aware that nipple stimulation can sometimes bring on contractions?

arnt there women that breast feed older children whilst being pregnant with the next one??

is there anyone here whos actually done this?
thanks for reading

i've not done it but i have a friend that it happened to, the doc told her to express it and freeze it, it will come in handy for when she actually had her baby, she didn't have any problems with her supply.

You actually won't get milk. You'll get Colostrum and you won't be able to produce milk until after your placenta detaches from the uterus lining. My midwife let me know this when I had concerns when she told me to use my breast pump to stimulate my nipples and start labour. I still wouldn't suggest doing anything with it at this point because of that reason. I'm sure you don't want to go into labour at this point.

I have read that you could still breastfeed while pregnant and I think so long as you still have that milk supply then it would work but if you let yourself dry out while pregnant then you will not be able to get anything until after the baby is born.

The female body is so complicated sometimes. *LOL*

yep you will not make milk until the placenta detatches from your uterus :)

Progesterone is you mega pregnancy hormone. It's produced by your placenta and maintains pregnancy.

Prolactin is your milk making hormone.

Progesterone is a prolactin inhibitor and as stated above, disccourages milk production during pregnancy... (also inhibits ovulation but thats another thread...)

So what happens when mama BF while pregnant? There's just more prolactin than progesterone and milk can still be produced.

A lot of the time though, mama will dry up or severely loose supply... or the taste of the milk will change enough that baby will self wean.

As for pumping colostrum, I wouldn't bother. You only make it a few days as baby needs milk, and you need her to feed to regulate supply and bring your milk in.

I did too with my son and I'm terrified that I will again. The first time I leaked I soaked the bed. The good news is, and I know some women here have this fear, you will still be able to breastfeed and you won't run out of milk after the baby's born either just because you leak allot during pregnancy. I had over-active letdown with my son (the poor thing) and I swear could feed him across the room if I wanted to

I would suggest breast pads and a comfortable sleeping bra (with no underwires)

thanks everyone

I've been tempted to do this before i go to bed because i wake up during the night and my chest is all wet from me leaking all over the place! but i decided against it as im scared although it was fine for some other people i think it still might mess up my..lactation? :S

I have been wondering the same thing !!!

Im leaking so much that i was getting concerned i might run out :dohh:

my mw advised me to just put up with it and not to express anything !

I wouldn't express, it will just make you produce more.
