Purple line, true/false?*PICS in spoiler post 3*

Okay I have read online about the purple line up your bum crack meaning you are dilated. I swear, I checked yesterday and nothing, I checked today and there is a line...does this mean I should make sure my bags are 100% packed before bed?

I'm trying to find out how to take a non-indecent picture of my bum crack....gotta be better than mucus pics, right?

Off to do some googling.

ETA: Maybe it just means the baby is engaged/lower in the birth canal?

Let me just add, I haven't found much by google image searching. Lots of crack, only a couple are pregnancy related.

ETA: I also noticed this because I checked right after I felt like I needed to poop, but didn't need to. I still feel like I need to poop, kind of, but no poop, which makes me think baby is at least getting lower in position.

I've herd of this, but i haven't really read about experiences. Interesting though! Are you getting any checks?

I was checked Wednesday 1.5 cm about 50% effaced, but been that way since 37 weeks. Won't be checked again until Tuesday, unless things progress.

I haven't let DH in on the crazy yet.

In the links, it says "to the top of the anal cleft" which it goes pretty high, but I feel if I were that dilated I'd know! That is why I reckon it has more to do with station rather than dilation? I am not sure.

I've got a purple line too! Just checked. Comes about as far as yours and visible without 'spreading' my butt cheeks. I couldn't help but look lol, haven't noticed it before!

I'm a bit sceptical about this theory as I had a line right the way up when I was only 1cm dilated and it didn't go completely away after birth! I always have a line of some degree of colour there. During pregnancy a woman's vulva gets darker anyway and since your butt crack is in the same region, I'm not sure it's anything that could tell you with any accuracy what's going on.

A lot of times it doesn't show until 4+ cm. It looks more pink and less purple today

Well, line is still there, still purple (or was last night) and I don't have a baby about to pop out. I'll see if maybe it gets thicker in full labor, if I think about it. But there is no denying it is purple IRL, and I know I checked a few days before I posted this and there was NO purple.

Seriously that's weird I showed my partner (sorry) and my partner said she noticed mine looked pink the other night. Still early for me, I've not heard of this before interesting to see x

I believe in the purple line!! I didn't have one and as I dilated it got darker and darker and became more noticeable. I'd say yours has definitely started. It could mean labor tomorrow or not for a few more weeks. I've gone into labor only dilated 1 cm and also not until I was 4 cm, so really... who knows. I hate the waiting game

I've never heard of this theory but it sounds interesting for sure. I really want to ask my husband to check (without explaining why) just to see his reaction. If only I weren't afraid he'd make me return the favor!

A few weeks ago I checked and there was no line. Checked tonight and there's definitely a line, and it's definitely purple. Hope this means I've progressed passed the 1 I was a week ago when my dr checked me
