I just read somewhere that if I'm claiming benefits I can only have £20 of the money that FOB pays to CSA. Is this right?

So if he pays £30 to the CSA, I get £20 and the CSA keep £10.

I will be working part time but claiming housing benefit (providing I am entitled). This is the only thing I'll be claiming other than Child Benefit obviously.

Help please

All the child maintenance collected by the CSA will be paid in full to the parent with care. Parents with care who receive income-related benefits must declare any maintenance they receive to Jobcentre Plus. Since 27 October 2008, all parents with care who receive income-related benefits are allowed to keep up to £20 per week of child maintenance in addition to their benefits.

In April 2010 a full disregard will be introduced meaning any money parents receive in child maintenance payments will not be taken into account when calculating out-of-work benefits or Housing and Council Tax benefits.

So you will recieve the full amount, but you need to inform the Housing Benefit (and possibly council tax benefit if you get it)) the amount you get.

With a private arrangement you still have to declare the maintainence.

Thanks for your reply

So does the £20 thing only relate to income related benefits like job seekers and income support?

Thanks x

I think so, I don't think it would affect Contribution Based ESA or IB, or Contribution Based Job Seekers.

It is probably wise to just inform the JCP, no matter what you claim, just to be safe!
