Hey guys have my first appointment with fertility specialist Oct 2. I should have gone a while ago but was hoping my regular ob would be able to fix things...but hasnt.. Was filling out my questioner and wondering if ANY of the tests they do are covered by insurance. I know it depends on your insurance and mine doesn't cover anything coded infertility, but with they code blood work ect. Infertility there? Also what do I expect at first appointment.? Thanks in advance of any input.

Hi waitingongod-I live in The Bahamas where insurance covers absolutely nothing for fertility treatments so everything I do is out of pocket. If your insurance does not cover anything fertility related either, I doubt they'll cover any bloodwork related to fertility treatment/diagnosis. My first appointment they got my background info, gave me ultrasound, ordered bloodwork for both me and DH as well as SA. After results came in doc discussed our best plan of action and way forward. I left first visit feeling as though he would help us finally get out bfp. I was diagnosed with endo so had to treat that and have laparoscopy before going ahead with any fertility treatments. As you can see from my signature, I was taking meds for IUI last month however my cycle was cancelled due to low estrogen. Once af shows we will give it another go and have IUI this month. Keeping fingers crossed that IUI is just what we need for our bfp. GL on your visit.

Thanks for the response. Was hopi%ng to not go to my appointment because I actually ovulated this month with a progesterone of 50! But. .still no pregnancy..the finances stress me out but it's worth it to be a mom! I hope to see doc and try clomid one more month and then go to iui. That stinks you had to cancel your iui. Are they going to do anything about the low estrogen ?

Hi the low estrogen last month was due to the dosage of meds I was on. They worked too fast and the follies weren't able to develop properly so I had perfect sizes follies but low estrogen for the size. I'm actually not doing iui this month either. My cd2 scan showed my lining was not shedding properly and was still very thick for being on my period so I'm in meds now to have period start again in another week then 1 month of bc then bk for 2 day scan. Initially I thought it was a set back but now believe it will be a set up for my bfp

That is a great positive way at looking at it! Good luck to you in the future !

Hi waitingongod1 - I live in the States. My insurance does cover fertility, however I do have some out of pocket cost until I hit my max.

I hope your 1st appointment went well.

My first appointment I had a consultation with doctor. Basically they went over my history, family history and husband history. 2nd appointment - blood work and US
3rd appointment looked at my follicle cd 2-3 - went excellent
4th more blood work and test
5th HSG test
6th SONO test
7th pre op (opted for surgery)
8th surgery (based on HSG/SONO test)
9th post op
10th (10/15) see nurse who will go over administering shots and of course more BW and US

Husband's SA came back excellent!

I recommending asking your doctor and insurance company what is covered. I know my RE has financial options available. I know some things are based on how the office codes it, so it also might be that or I know my insurance will not let me go straight to IVF but only if had block tubes or something extreme otherwise I have to go in order for fertility treatment (pills/shot, IUI, IVF)
At this point my insurance has provided some coverage

I hope that helps and good luck on your journey!

Want1too- thanks for the info! Are you doing iui or ivf? My appointment went really well. I've got more hope now. You said how to administer shots? What is that for?

You're welcome @ info. Glad to hear your appointment went well and your feeling more hopeful. :)

During our last appointment the doctor gave us sooooo much info. We decided to go with FSH shot (I believe). We are not doing IUI yet. We are doing shots and BD. :sex: My husband still wanted to try naturally since we know he is good and I just had surgery and should be good too. We are hoping and praying we get :bfp: after first cycle of trying with shots.

Our insurance will not allow us to go straight to IVF. We have to do other options first. I have my appointment on 15th, I can give you more details afterwards if you like.

What's your next step?

Is a fsh shot the same as trigger shot? It makes sure you ovulate. so you give them at home? How many a cycle and where do you give your self a shot at? This is the part I am most worried about iui haha...

waitingongod1 - sorry I am now just responding to you. I have been off for a little. The FSH shot is different than the trigger shot (HCG).
The FSH injection is used to stimulate ovulation and can be used in two ways:
1. women who do not ovulate regularly
2. woman who do ovulate by causing more than 1 egg to be matured and released.

It works by stimulating the ovaries to produce follicles, the more follicles the more eggs.

My trigger injection is Ovidrel - this shot causes ovulation to occur with in 24-36 hours. Basically to ensure the final stages of follicular maturation and stimulate ovulation this injection is given

Both injections are given in the evening at home. The injection site for me is my stomach below the belly button. You can have anywhere from 8-10 shots normally but sometime more or less depends on how your body is reacting to the meds. I am currently being monitored, I previously was going in every other day and now I have been going in almost everyday.

The injections can be done with BD or IUI, to increase your chances.

Believe me needles are not my thing at all it literally takes me 15-20minutes to give myself the injections. But if it will get me closer to our TTC goal. "I will take one for the team"....crying and all.

I hope this helps if you have any other questions let me know. TTYL

Good luck ladies!!! :dust:
