I guess since I am getting closer to the end of this pregnancy, I am getting more anxious about things that could go a little less 'according to planned'.

I know that with GD sometime the placenta can start to break down and the baby will need to come out asap. A friend had this happen to her, but she was medically controlled and I am diet controlled. Her sugars were still in the 300+ range with medicine. On one hand I feel I am being silly for even thinking that could happen to me since I am diet controlled with some numbers jumping to 130-140, but overall the doctors have said I do good. I have an ultrasound tomorrow and I am super nervous that he is going to be huge already and that something will be wrong.

So if someone who has had their placenta break down like that tell me about it I would appreciate it.

I also read that preeclampsia can be more likely with GD.

Today my feet are swollen and my mom freaked out which made me kinda freak out. My BP usually runs lower than average so I don't think it would be high. Im hot, I'm cold. Im thirsty, Im hungry. I really think I am just going crazy.

I know there are mothers in this forum with issues way worse than mine so I feel silly for even posting this, but I really need some reassurance.

TIA

***** ALSO*****

I just had a coworker check my BP because another coworker confirmed my feet were pretty swollen. It was 130/80. 130 is a higher top # than I have ever had. I usually have a bp from 90/50-110/90.

I see my doctor tomorrow anyway. Should I be concerned enough to call them now?

I can't really comment on the BP issue beyond if it isn't normal for you then speak to your doctor ASAP.

Re the placenta, obviously if your sugar control is poor it will affect the placenta. It causes it to calcify more rapidly and means it might not work so well.

There is an article about a study done in Australia I think where they examined the placentas of lots of women with GD - some controlled with meds, others diet control, some with perfect control and others less so. What they found is that under a microscope even totally normal looking placentas of gd women with perfect control did have some abnormalities in the way it had formed. So they concluded there is some sort of link between just having GD and the placenta - but they don't understand the extent or why.

I say all of the above but myself had GD in my most recent pregnancy (I had very good control but had to work really hard) and I felt safe going to 41 weeks. I personally had to balance the risks of induction early against the GD risks.

I'd had scans and new I had normal fluid levels, the cord was working well, placenta looked healthy and baby normal size.

I had a 7lb 1oz baby at 41 weeks :flower:
